Life 365 | Week 27

After watching Toy Story 3 – I’m even more aware of the importance of my children’s playtime. I love seeing them engrossed in their imagination. The Cars movie has always been special to JJ and he’s been collecting more and more fun toys from the movie. Most of the time, it drives me crazy to have all the kids’ toys scattered everywhere. But today, I was reminded of the Toy Story movies, and the way I played when I was growing up and I just watched the kids play – so grateful that they use their imaginations.

It’s was my 31st birthday today. I didn’t really have too much planned, except that I wanted to sleep in, to have a long shower, and go see a movie by myself. So Joey took JJ to school so I wouldn’t have to get up early and I did get to sleep in. But as I was taking my shower, I heard something snap and then no hot water. I had to call Joey back from work and he had to crawl clear under the house to fix a pipe. He got so dirty, but I’m so grateful that he was willing to do that to get it done. The rest of the day was just a regular day of a little cleaning, a little playing and a little designing. I finally got my long shower after the kids went to bed and then at 2am I headed off to stand in line for the 3:15am showing of Eclipse – me and all the teenagers. But it was fun and worth it and even though I got home at about 5:30am – I’m glad I did something crazy for my birthday.

Joey works A LOT and he doesn’t often get to play video games. But he has spent a lot of time lately playing World of Warcraft. He has needed to get certain goals met so that he can get the next expansion pack for free. He still hasn’t quite made it but he has a few more days! The kids love seeing him play!

We love it when we get to tend Mallory for awhile! She came over to visit us, while Aunt Becki went to see Eclipse and we had a great time. We got to feed her and play with her and she even took a nap. She’s so sweet and cute and little!

We had a lazy morning and then packed at about lunchtime to head to Sink Valley for the weekend! We picked up some McDonalds to eat on the way. Unfortunately, we got almost 1/2 way there before realizing that we had forgotten Joey’s pills. So we had to turn around and go get them. We finally arrived at about 8:30pm at the family ranch. The kids were so happy to finally get there! We set up our tent and helped Grandma with the dutch oven dinner. And the best part for the kids was that they got to ride on the Gator with Uncle Clint and Grandpa. We had a nice dinner and even got dessert because Beth says, “It’s not camping if you don’t have smores.” Then we spent a hard night in the tent – Beth slept well but the rest of us didn’t. I guess Joey and I are too old now for camping the real way! But I’m still glad the kids had the experience!

I haven’t spent a lot of time at Sink Valley – the family ranch – in a few years so this weekend was really wonderful. We woke up and had breakfast which my mom had cooked over the old stove in the house. We got to go feed the horses in the Gator and swing in the tire swing. So many fun memories from the years and I’m so excited that my kids get to experience a little bit of what I grew up with. We then headed into Orderville to celebrate the 4th of July. We went to the park and the kids got to play games, we had lunch, the kids went down the slippy slide, and Joey and I got to help judge the soup contest! Then we headed back to Sink Valley where we met up with my brothers and sisters and their families. We played some ultimate basketball (like ultimate frisbee but with basketballs and buckets) and I tore up my leg pretty good and Joey toppled over Beth so she got hurt too – but it was still fun. The kids got to ride on a horse and ride in the baler/swather to help with the hay. My dad caught a young deer without a mommy and they fed it some milk and my kids got to pet it! Later even most of my cousins/aunt/uncle on my Dad’s side showed up. It was quite the reunion to have us all together. We used to do yearly Easter trips together with them and I have so many great memories. We had a great cook-out and visiting! It was the first time my whole family has been together in a really long time and so we captured some photos that I’m sure we are all going to treasure! And Whitnee announced to all of us that her Mom is pregnant! We thought Kori was done – so this is a new exciting thing to happen for their family and I’m excited to be an Aunt once again. We headed to Orderville after the cook-out and got baths/showers before heading to bed. Beth got to go to Whitnee’s for a sleepover and she was so excited.

We got up early and headed over to Cedar City where we attended my brother’s church and got to see his daughter – Briel Ruth Sorensen – be blessed. We had a luncheon at their house and it was just really great to have my family all together. We then headed to Orderville again, where I promptly had a nap and the kids watched a movie and Joey went and helped my parents and brothers move sprinklers! Then we headed up to Sink Valley again! We played more Ultimate Basketball and had another cookout with the family. My parents, Clint, Cody and his family, Ricky and Logan, and my family camped for another night. We stayed in Kori’s little house this time because we decided we didn’t want to put up the other tent. We all slept much better.

Project 365 | Week 14

The worst part about a vacation is that you come back and have to do all the laundry, unpack, and try and catch up from all the time you missed. We are all SO tired today. I think it is going to take a couple of weeks to recover. I got a start on the laundry and working on getting all my photos organized and unpacking. I’m just too tired to get it all done right now. JJ was excited to go back to school today and tell his teacher all the fun stuff he has been doing, but he came home pretty tired and onery.

Beth’s turn to be all excited about going back to school. She wore her new Cinderella shirt and got to share her new Princess dolls for Show-and-Tell. We are still trying to recover. I’m slowly getting unpacked. I had to license our van today and did a little grocery shopping. I feel like I have so much catching up to do and I don’t know how I’ll get it all done.

Maybe I’ll just go take a nap instead – wait, it’s 6pm, I guess I’ll have to wait until night now….darn it!

Beth loved the paper chain countdown to Disneyland so much that we decided to do one for her birthday. I can’t believe she’s going to be 4! She’s growing up so fast. I really love her imagination. Today, I looked over to see her imagination in full force. She had a blank piece of paper, a straw from her juice cup, a tray from some store-bought cookies and she was “painting.” She didn’t need real paints or anything else – she was painting and she could “see” it all.

I haven’t been able to do much this week – I just haven’t felt good. So instead of catching up on all the things I need to do – I laid on the bed and finished the whole Twilight series again. I love books and the Twilight books are quickly becoming a favorite. I get so engrossed in them that I just can’t stop reading it. I read all 4 books in 2 days!

JJ brought home a cup with a little wheatgrass (I think that is what it is). He had drawn a cute face on it. A little water, sun, and a few days later, we had lots of grass! Lots of fun!

I truly love it when my kids play together. It is so fun to just watch them play and listen to their fun conversations. They were playing with JJ’s new Mac (from Disney’s Cars) and I love that Beth can be so girly and yet will go play trucks with JJ too! It was the start of General Conference today too. I really enjoyed listening to our prophets and hearing their words of wisdom and encouragement. I am so glad that I live in a place that I can turn on the tv and listen to the wonderful words and that I can do it from my own home!

Today was filled with the spirit as we listened to the last 2 sessions of General Conference. I feel so blessed to be a member of the church and to have so much spiritual inspiration from the leaders of the church. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by all the things I need to do better, but something I took out of this conference was inspiration about taking it a little at a time. I know I have so much to learn and so many changes I should make in my life to be a better person, but I’m trying now to just do a little at a time. Such a wonderful blessing to have these General Conferences twice a year where we get to hear from the Prophet and all the Apostles. It truly lifts my spirits and helps me to endure through my trials. I love the gospel and I have a testimony that Heavenly Father and Jesus lives and they love us. I know they hear and answer prayers. I am so grateful to my Savior for his sacrifice for me. Where would I be without the gospel? I am just truly truly blessed.

JJ had to go back to school today. He was very excited to be going back on the bus. I meant to get a photo of him getting on the bus but I just didn’t get to it. But when I went outside I saw the neatest thing. His footprints in the snow, leading to the road where he got on the bus. And when I finally went to get the mail after dark – I got some pretty good snow EYE CANDY! 🙂

Joey, along with our friend PETE, made their first podcast tonight. They are going to do it weekly and they are talking about some of their favorite tv shows, politics, and other things. Joey really had a great time tonight!

Beth got to go back to preschool today and she was so happy to get out of the house. Lots of snow today and the kids were excited to wear their coats, hats and gloves. We did a little grocery shopping after preschool and then just hung out after JJ got home from school. Each of them got a shower and we put them in their new pjs and robes to go get Dad from work!

JJ really loves the Lightning McQueen Car he got from Grandma and Grandpa Sorensen for Christmas this year. It walks, races, talks, and is just a fun addition to his toy collection. Today I finally was able to capture his excitement for the toy!

This smile says it all!

Today was kind of a downer day. I just felt a little under the weather, a little out of sorts, and just not myself. Nothing particularly exciting happened today. It was just kind of a BLAH day. There’s only one thing you can do when this happens – and that’s forget healthy meals and go with comfort food. So for dinner some of my favorites were on the menu. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, Stove Top Stuffing, and for dessert came the Vanilla Ice Cream with hot fudge. YUM!

Before Joey left for his Friday night racquetball, he was working on his computer and JJ got really excited when he saw the Firefox logo on Dad’s screen. He kept saying a word that we didn’t understand. We rarely get details from JJ about what he does at school, so when he finally got the word he was saying across to us it was a real surprise. He was saying STARFALL and apparently it’s a program on the internet that they use at school that helps them to learn to read and other learning experiences. We thought it was so neat that JJ recognized it from the Firefox logo and that we were able to find it and now we can play it at home! It’s a great experience to have communication with JJ and to see what he is learning! A great day today!

The kids have been playing Hide ‘n Seek with their Dad lately and they totally love it and can’t get enough. I managed to snap a few photos of their game today. The kids took turns counting. They were so cute as they shut their eyes, leaned against the kitchen counters and counted – Beth to 10, JJ to 20. Both kids can’t contain their giggling when Dad is hunting them. They give away their hiding place every time. And it’s a hoot when Beth finds Dad because she shouts BOO! It was such a delight to watch the interaction of the kids with their Dad.

JJ loves Spiderman. Joey managed to get some Spiderman cartoons for him and that’s all he wants to do now is watch Spiderman or play Spiderman or be Spiderman. No matter how much his Dad tries to convince him that Superman is much better, JJ is completely convinced that Spiderman is the best superhero. Maybe we will convince him eventually. After all, his middle name is Clark.

Joey went to the Casetta’s house for a little while tonight to help Mike with his computer because as Beth said, “Dad is going to help EVERYBODY with their computers.”
