Life 365 | Week 26

It was such an exciting day for JJ. He left with his cub scout troop at 6:30am for the Jeremiah Johnson Scout Day Camp. JJ has never done anything like this before so I was a little nervous about how he would handle it – but I shouldn’t have worried. He came home about 2pm with a huge smile on his face! His leader told me how amazing he did today and that he actually started initiating conversations with the other boys and just trying and doing his best at everything. I’m so proud of him! He got to make a paper rocket, a wood airplane, and do lots of belt loops and other requirements! It was a wonderful day for him.

Soon after JJ got home – Grandma Smith arrived. She spent the afternoon and evening with us and the kids loved having her play with them. She helped us finish up organizing the toys in the kids room too. We had Uncle Aaron over for dinner and we had some really great conversation. After the kids went to bed and Joey took Aaron home – Mom Smith and I had a long conversation into the night and it was so great to have someone to lean on. Thanks Mom!

It was a hard day for me. I started the day with a bad panic attack that basically wiped my whole day. I’m so thankful to Joey and the kids for helping me through the day. JJ had his pack meeting tonight and got lots of belt loops from his day camp yesterday. He was so excited!

It was Beth’s last day of Soccer Camp. She had so much fun. The coaches played soccer games with them and then they got to have a huge water fight. Beth was completely drenched and completely happy!

Grandpa and Grandma Sorensen arrived today. They brought Uncle Clint and cousin Colby and some of their team to the BYU Basketball Camp, so they are staying with us for a couple of days. The kids were so excited to have them here! We attended the boys’ first game at the camp and then we picked up Joey and went to Cabella’s. What a store! The kids were fascinated by the displays! Then we went to IHOP for dinner (since Sizzler was closed before we could get there)!

It was a fun, busy day. We took JJ to school and then went and watched another basketball game before running Grandpa and Grandma around for this and that. After picking JJ up, we did some more shopping, had lunch, and went to another basketball game. It was fun to just be with my parents and visit!

Another exciting day! Grandpa and Grandma left early to go get some tar in Salt Lake City and they left for home later on in the afternoon. But we didn’t see them after that – because we had a lot to do! It was our DATE WITH THE KIDS DAY! We started by going to JJ’s last Tball game – where he got a fun trophy! Beth and I left a little early and went back home to curl her hair and dress her up. Then we headed over to the wonderful Princess Festival! It was our first year but we will definitely have to plan on making it a tradition. Beth got to go on a treasure hunt for a wonderful princess story & autograph book. She got to go on a princess adventure where she helped all the princesses. We did a little shopping at the booths, ate lunch, and took lots of pictures with the princesses. Beth ADORED it! While we were gone – JJ and Joey headed off to the arcade where they had lunch, played games, and JJ got to play his first laser tag game which he loved! About 3pm we all arrived home – hot and tired, but the kids were so happy! JJ then headed off for an hour of water time fun at a friend’s birthday party. We did a bit of down time before having pizza for dinner. Then we switched and Joey took his little princess to the Ball at the princess festival and JJ and I went to see Toy Story 3 in the theater. Beth had so much fun at the ball with the entertainment, the snacks, and the dancing and JJ really loved the movie! So I think our day was a COMPLETE SUCCESS!

The kids loved that Grandpa and Grandma left them DONUTS! It made for a great snack after church!

Life 365 | Week 9

Monday, February 22, 2010
feb22I spent all early afternoon getting Beth registered for Kindergarten. I still can’t believe she is going to Kindergarten next year. Because Foothill Elementary isn’t our area school (since JJ was placed there for his special class) – I had to get signatures from our area school so it just took awhile.

feb23It was JJ’s first Blue and Gold Dinner for Scouts and this marked the Scouts’ 100th Birthday so it was pretty special. JJ helped me make a fun cake that we entered into the cake contest and he got the Most Festive Cake Award. They got to play games and have a pizza dinner and we got to watch a wonderful Indian hoop dancer! A fun night!

feb24I have come to really love Freecycle.org. I have gotten rid of a few things that have become useful to others and have gotten things myself. Today, I got an awesome Toaster Oven! So cool and its FREE!

Thursday, February 25, 2010
feb25I got out my manual plastic binding machine and we made some heart and star books out of construction paper. The kids really enjoyed getting to draw and color in them!

feb26It was kind of a downer week for me this week. Just everyday and design struggles got the best of me this week and left me kind of down. But after some amazing emails from Amy and from a new friend, Tristi, and from my visiting teachers, I just felt lifted up. And it became even better today when Tristi emailed me letting me know that both of us were featured in the Mormon Times, since we had both blogged about our experience of getting to know each other a bit better. So fun!

feb27We donated some of our books to a special company who is giving books to Africa to encourage literacy. It was fun going through all of our books and having the kids help pick out some that they don’t read anymore. I hope that the kids are learning a bit about service and sharing.

Sunday, February 28, 2010
feb28We have decided to start reading books with our kids. I’ve never really had a good schedule of reading to the kids and so I really wanted to get this started. We are starting with the first book in the Chronicles of Narnia and we have read the first couple of chapters so far. The kids seem to enjoy it so I hope they get a lot out of it.

Project 365 | Week 42

Today I walked Beth to school for the first time since I sprained my ankle. It was hard and it hurt, but I made it and I’m so glad! It was a very long day. Had a hard time sleeping, so I only got a couple of hours of sleep. Because I walked so slow, I missed JJ’s bus coming home and he was home alone for about 10 minutes and he was so scared because “he couldn’t find me.” I felt awful that I didn’t make it back in time, but it doesn’t look like he will be scarred for life or anything. Just a really tired day!

It rained today and it just feels like Fall Weather! We finally were able to find a ride for our van to go to Orderville so my Dad can fix it for us. The kids enjoyed watching the van get put on the “big truck” and it feels so good to finally get it down there.

Another rainy day. I really do love Fall Weather! I made some Bone Breadsticks to go with our Spaghetti tonight – the kids LOVED IT. They really like it when I do fun stuff for the holidays. I really need to do it more. I just don’t get into holidays anymore and everything feels like a hassle, but when I see the delight on my kids’ faces – it gives me motivation to do it. Another successful Over the Hump Chat tonight too!

I have decided to do Fall Cleaning this year. My house has totally gone downhill since I sprained my ankle. It is time for cleaning and organization. I accomplished moving the bookshelves and all my office stuff into the bedroom today. I cleaned it all out – got rid of stuff and organized. It may not look the cleanest, but it is organized chaos – so it’s much better. I am now using the little side table I got from Grandpa Baker’s house to put my hard drives and laptop too. I spend most of my computer time in the bedroom anyways and now Joey can use the desk for all his computer stuff – which frees up my kitchen table! Things are much better now! I really hate housework – but it sure feels good when its done!

The kids had fall break on Thursday and Friday, so they have been home with me. I feel kind of bad that I didn’t do anything exciting with them this week – but I think they just enjoyed being home and actually they have liked helping me sort through everything and clean. They have found all kinds of treasures that have made them happy. We cleaned up the living room today – and organized all the books and everything. It’s looking really good. We did take a craft break today and made up some cute little paper bag puppets with some craft supplies that I forgot I had! The kids had a lot of fun and it was fun to see them smile and play together.

We just cleaned again today – finished up the living room and started in on the kitchen. We got paid so I did some much needed grocery shopping at Costco and Walmart.

I forgot to mention that on Wednesday, JJ came home with this amazing certificate. He is one of the students of the week at his school! He got some great coupons for some free meals at some restaurants. He is such a good friend and example and help to the other members of his class and his teacher and I’m so glad he has found a place in school that he enjoys! I’m so proud of him!

A regular Sunday this week. Church, Choir practice for mom, nap, and a priesthood meeting for Dad. I made some Ravoli for dinner and Beth was so happy! It is her favorite and I haven’t made it in a while!
