Being a Daddy’s girl myself – I really love seeing the relationship that has been developing between Joey and Beth. They share some wonderful qualities and they have a great time together.

I got to go on JJ’s field trip with him today. We went to Salem Pond, to the Fishing Day 2009! It was really fun to see JJ holding the pole and catching a fish (with the help of some wonderful fishermen). I wish I could have captured the complete delight on his face as he reeled in the fish. I wasn’t able to get the right angle and there was so many people around. But it was still very fun. We spent a couple of hours there at the pond, fishing and eating hot dogs and potato salad. It was also really fun to see JJ with his classmates and teacher!

I love the beauty of trees. We live in a trailer park with not a lot of space, but we do have a little yard and I’m very grateful for that. And we do have lots of trees around us and they are so beautiful. I walked out on the porch today to check on the kids and happened to glance at the trees and they just looked very beautiful to me. The contrast of the green leaves, the brown bark and the sky was just a wonderful sight!

I have spent the better part of the last 2 weeks working on kits for the So You Think You Can Design Contest. I applied several weeks ago and was selected as one of the 80 participants. I was so excited to make it in. Although I had the disappointment this week of not making it to Round 3, it really has been a good experience. I am grateful that I made it to 2 rounds – I’m grateful that I was even selected in the first place! I am grateful that I was able to get myself known just a little bit more! I’m grateful that my Heavenly Father has given me this creative talent that I have to be able to do this and do it from home so I can still be a wife and mom. I’m grateful for an amazing supportive husband and wonderful kids that put up with me when I am in design mode. And I am extremely grateful for all of the people who enjoy my work and make it possible for me to do this! They truly make my life wonderful!

The Young Women in our ward held a Luau tonight as a fundraiser to help them go to Girls Camp. As it is Joey’s Racquetball and Podcast night and due to having only one vehicle, we opted to get the takeout dinner instead of the sit-down dinner at the church. Meat and rice, vegetables, fruit, chips and salsa, salad, and rainbow sherbet was the meal and it was so yummy! Even the kids ate it all. Joey got the Pulled Pork which he didn’t really care for, but the kids and I enjoyed our Hawaiian Chicken!

Tonight we had our monthly dinner with Cody and Becki. Becki’s parents and sister also joined us. We had Hawaiian haystacks and it was great. Yea, I guess we are on a Hawaii kick this week. And Prez (Becki’s Dad), made us some homemade ice cream. Yummy! We also got to play on Cody and Becki’s Wii. I had not played before and I really enjoyed it. I usually don’t get into video games and stuff – but this was fun. JJ loved it too! I think the Wii is definitely going to have to be on our Christmas wish list this year.

Joey and I love sharing movies and tv shows together. But we do have differing opinions often on what our favorites are. But we both love the BACK TO THE FUTURE Trilogy. We introduced the first wonderful movie to our kids today and they got a kick out of it. I love sharing these things with my kids as they get older. It’s so much fun!

The kids were eating some lunch and Joey and I were on our computers. We were eavesdropping on their cute conversation about their drinks which was actually Strawberry-Kiwi Juice.

JJ: “I’m drinking root beer.”
Beth: “I’m drinking Moonberry Juice, is that ok?”
JJ: “We’re pretending, it can be whatever we want!”

And here is my weekly layout:

Project 365 | Week 17

The kids have really enjoyed the “Spring Days.” They have been playing outside in the yard together and they get so worn out. They sleep much better and they are happier too, so it has been really great!

The kids played at the park for awhile today. They just had to wear their cool sunglasses and they were too cute!

On our way to the mail today, Beth picked up a tree branch filled with beautiful blossoms. She was so delighted about it and kept it with her all day!

It was Bring Your Daughter to Work Day at Joey’s work so Beth got to go with her Daddy today. They had a great program for them with Breakfast, Lunch, and fun activities. They had a passport to go to different rooms that represented different countries and had fun learning activities at each of them.

Joey had to go to meetings in Salt Lake City today so after JJ’s school we headed up there to watch Joey play racquetball and go to Mings for Dinner. We got to visit with Sabrina, Brandon, and Pete and that is always so much fun!

Joey stayed overnight at Pete’s last night and then went to the Salt Lake Temple this morning. We picked him up at the Trax Station and went to lunch. We spent the rest of the rainy day at home. I picked up some Strawberries yesterday and made yummy Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. I whipped up homemade cream for the first time and it tasted really good! The whole family loved it!

The kids were sick today, so we didn’t get to go to church. We watched some movies, played, worked on our computers, and just spent the whole day in the house. We ended the day with our new Sunday tradition – Chocolate Pudding!

We had an amazing opportunity today to go to the Draper Utah LDS Temple Open House. The temple is being dedicated next week, so it was our last chance to be able to walk through it. Unfortunately Joey wasn’t able to go with us, but I took the kids and I am so glad I did it. It was a snowy day so I wasn’t able to get a good picture of the temple (so I took a picture from the internet), but we were able to get a picture of us in the church (next to the temple) with a picture of the Savior. There was a lot of waiting time since there was so many people there, but the kids did pretty well, although by the time we took a photo, Beth was done and wouldn’t look at the camera. I hope the kids will remember the special feeling that we had in the Temple. The Spirit was truly there and I needed that feeling of peace in my life right now.

My Valentine’s Day present for Joey finally arrived today. We are big fans of the Indianapolis Colts and they have a new stadium. I was able to purchase a brick at the stadium with our names on it for Joey and of course we get a brick to display at home. I would really like to be able to take Joey to a game at the Colts Stadium someday and we’ll have to drop by our brick!

I started getting things together for our trip today and the pile of stuff that needs to go with us is already pretty big! I really need to learn to pack lighter! I finalized my list of attractions that I want to hit at the amusement parks and got quite a lot done. The kids helped for awhile but ended up watching a little tv before I finished. I have been doing better lately with less tv time for the kids, but we still need to work on finding better activities to keep them busy.

About 2 am, Beth came crying into our room saying that her head hurt. She had a 103 degree fever (which she has never had that high)! So of course she slept with us for the rest of the night and felt awful all day. My poor little girl!

So of course I had an awful night and Beth’s illness is now mine too. Headache, body aches, pain, congestion, and did I mention pain? Can’t wait for all of this to pass. Beth seems to be a lot better, so hopefully it’s only a 1-2 day thing. While Beth and I were taking a late nap, JJ created his own little workstation at the table. It was adorable!

I caught this adorable little scene today. Beth and Joey were playing with her ponies and it was just so precious to see their daddy-daughter relationship. Joey also got on his laptop and found some sites where we could figure out all the ponies names! So much fun for Beth!

So I am finally doing a lot better and although I still have a bit of a cough at least the pain is gone. But of course JJ was sick today. Thank goodness the sickness seems to not last long so hopefully we’ll get through this! Only one week until we leave for California!

Project 365 | Week 5

Monday, January 26, 2009
jan26Today was JJ’s 7th Birthday. I can’t believe how fast time has gone. JJ was so excited for today. JJ’s favorite color is yellow, so we made a yellow cake with some chocolate frosting with some great sprinkles and added his favorite spiderman action figures. One of the things that JJ is really good at is matching games and he loves them. So we finally got him MEMORY and a fun little stuffed puppy (he’s been wanting a dog) – it’s an e-pet, so we are going to get him set up online so he can play the fun games that they have that go with the puppy. We had pizza for dinner since that is one of JJ’s favorite meals. It’s so wonderful to see JJ so happy – his smile goes from ear to ear. Beth was completely jealous of all the attention JJ got today, but I’m glad we were able to make it his day. I think he had a good time.

Tuesday, January 27, 2009
jan27My poor little Beth is sick today. She was so sad to not be able to go to school. But she was all sniffles and coughs. So she sat and watched several episodes of the old My Little Pony shows (I used to watch them on Saturday morning when I was a little girl).

Wednesday, January 28, 2009
jan28I love my kids’ little feet and they take after me with not wanting shoes or socks on. Even in the winter we walk around the house without anything on our cold little toeses.

Tonight I had to put the kids to bed before Joey got home from work. But the kids were still awake when he arrived, so he went in to say goodnight. Beth hugged her daddy and whispered, “Daddy, I knew you would come.” She just says the sweetest things.

Thursday, January 29, 2009
jan29Bethie’s cold has turned into the flu. My poor girl. The day began with having to clean up her throw-up off the floor. Plus she was warm to the touch all day and was obviously sick because she actually took a long nap, didn’t eat hardly anything, and actually let me hold her without squirming away every couple of minutes. So basically I accomplished nothing all day – just sat and held my girl, which was actually the best thing in the world.

Friday, January 30, 2009
jan30JJ & Beth LOVE matching games. When JJ got home from school today, they started fighting over JJ’s birthday present, the MEMORY game. They just wouldn’t play together and I was trying to get some things done. So I found some matching games online for JJ to play while I set up the Memory game in the kitchen for Beth. They played for a couple of hours without any more fighting and it was great. Even better, I was able to stand in the hall and get both of them playing their games in the picture. 🙂

jan31I had the opportunity to spend a few hours with my college roommates today. I actually grew up with Amber in Orderville and we went to Dixie College together. We met Brianne there and we had some amazing memories in St. George. Amber was only there with us for a year and then she went on to Weber State, while Brianne and I spent another year together at Dixie. Brianne now lives in Massachusetts with her husband and 2 kids. Amber spent several years in Memphis while her husband went to school but they moved to Price, Utah this last year with their 4 kids. I think I’ve actually seen more of Brianne than Amber in the last 10 years. But anyways, for the first time since I think my wedding (they were both bridesmaids) – we were together again. We have kept in touch through our blogs, but it was really nice to just be with each other, have some food, and reminice a little bit. Thanks Brianne and Amber – I had a wonderful time and I miss you everyday!

Sunday, February 1, 2009
feb1I had another amazing opportunity to be able to go to church with Brianne today and see her daughter be blessed. My friends are spread out all over and I have only been able to go to a couple of baby blessings for their kids – so I was so happy that Brianne had her blessed in her home ward in American Fork. Holly is so cute and beautiful. This photo is of my daughter Beth Colleen and Brianne’s daughter Holly Colleen a few days ago. Thanks Brianne for inviting me – I really enjoyed being there.

Beth has been sick all week and now JJ is too, so they couldn’t come with me to church – so Joey stayed home with them. I think they are feeling a little shut-in and so to occupy them for awhile we did a little crafting. I found the most adorable Accordian Hearts on one of the blogs I read and they are really easy so we made some to hang around our house. It was a lot of fun. See how to make them HERE.

JJ had to go back to school today. He was very excited to be going back on the bus. I meant to get a photo of him getting on the bus but I just didn’t get to it. But when I went outside I saw the neatest thing. His footprints in the snow, leading to the road where he got on the bus. And when I finally went to get the mail after dark – I got some pretty good snow EYE CANDY! 🙂

Joey, along with our friend PETE, made their first podcast tonight. They are going to do it weekly and they are talking about some of their favorite tv shows, politics, and other things. Joey really had a great time tonight!

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Beth got to go back to preschool today and she was so happy to get out of the house. Lots of snow today and the kids were excited to wear their coats, hats and gloves. We did a little grocery shopping after preschool and then just hung out after JJ got home from school. Each of them got a shower and we put them in their new pjs and robes to go get Dad from work!

JJ really loves the Lightning McQueen Car he got from Grandma and Grandpa Sorensen for Christmas this year. It walks, races, talks, and is just a fun addition to his toy collection. Today I finally was able to capture his excitement for the toy!

This smile says it all!

Today was kind of a downer day. I just felt a little under the weather, a little out of sorts, and just not myself. Nothing particularly exciting happened today. It was just kind of a BLAH day. There’s only one thing you can do when this happens – and that’s forget healthy meals and go with comfort food. So for dinner some of my favorites were on the menu. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, Stove Top Stuffing, and for dessert came the Vanilla Ice Cream with hot fudge. YUM!

Before Joey left for his Friday night racquetball, he was working on his computer and JJ got really excited when he saw the Firefox logo on Dad’s screen. He kept saying a word that we didn’t understand. We rarely get details from JJ about what he does at school, so when he finally got the word he was saying across to us it was a real surprise. He was saying STARFALL and apparently it’s a program on the internet that they use at school that helps them to learn to read and other learning experiences. We thought it was so neat that JJ recognized it from the Firefox logo and that we were able to find it and now we can play it at home! It’s a great experience to have communication with JJ and to see what he is learning! A great day today!

The kids have been playing Hide ‘n Seek with their Dad lately and they totally love it and can’t get enough. I managed to snap a few photos of their game today. The kids took turns counting. They were so cute as they shut their eyes, leaned against the kitchen counters and counted – Beth to 10, JJ to 20. Both kids can’t contain their giggling when Dad is hunting them. They give away their hiding place every time. And it’s a hoot when Beth finds Dad because she shouts BOO! It was such a delight to watch the interaction of the kids with their Dad.

Sunday, January 11, 2009

JJ loves Spiderman. Joey managed to get some Spiderman cartoons for him and that’s all he wants to do now is watch Spiderman or play Spiderman or be Spiderman. No matter how much his Dad tries to convince him that Superman is much better, JJ is completely convinced that Spiderman is the best superhero. Maybe we will convince him eventually. After all, his middle name is Clark.

Joey went to the Casetta’s house for a little while tonight to help Mike with his computer because as Beth said, “Dad is going to help EVERYBODY with their computers.”

And here is my completed layout for Week 2:
