Project 365 | Week 41

I think the Crockpot is one of life’s greatest inventions. I really need to use mine more. I stuck some chicken, some pinapple and some teriyaki sauce in the crockpot in the morning and it cooked all day. All I had to do was cook up some rice to go with it and dinner was done for today. Why can’t I remember to do this more – it really made my day so much easier and dinner was so good! Today was my first day without crutches. The ankle is still weak and I am still using the aircast, but at least I am getting around better!

I was able to go to the Relief Society Enrichment tonight and it really felt good to get out of the house. It was craft night and I was able to make these adorable Family Home Evening Dice. One dice included the names of my family members (2 are blank so I can add to them as my family grows) and the other dice included all the components of a Family Home Evening (Lesson, Activity, Song, Prayer, Treat). You roll each dice to see which family member is going to do what thing for FHE. I thought it was a really cute idea. I think we are going to stick with me and Joey doing lessons for awhile, but the kids can do some of the other things for it!

Beth got to go on a field trip for school today. They went over to the fire station and got to talk to the firemen and see inside the fire station, the fire trucks, an ambulance, and even got to sit in an emergency helicopter! The firemen gave them little fire hats and cotton candy! Beth was so excited to get to wear her Center Stage shirt and jacket for the first time too!

Fall is in the air and its definitely time to start bringing out the jackets. It was pretty cold this morning and JJ got all snuggled up in his new jacket as we waited for his school bus!

Beth’s little tradition after school is to have lunch (pretty much always a ham and cheese sandwich) and get to eat while watching a couple of her shows. But she is so funny because I think her favorite thing to watch is COMMERCIALS. Joey thinks maybe she is going to go into advertising or something because she just gets a kick out of commercials and doesn’t like when we fast forward through them (thank goodness for TiVo). Silly girl!

Joey spent the whole day in Salt Lake City in some meetings so we just had a casual day at home. The kids played all day and I spend most of the day on my laptop doing the part of designing that I don’t particularly like – the advertising and loading new products into my stores. It’s time consuming and it took all day but I finally got it all caught up.

The Colts played the Sunday Night Game and it was fun to see them win and do such a good job. I really love being able to watch football with Joey and even though we watch football really different – I’m the vocal one and Joey is very quiet – it’s still a wonderful thing we get to do together!

Beth hung out with me all day. It was her “special activity.” She got all her smiley faces last week, so she chose to be with mom and we went school shopping for her, out to lunch, and then played at home! I think she had a wonderful day!

I am so happy to be able to capture these fun moments when my kids get along. JJ was reading (to Beth) his little book he had made at school!

I worked hard all week to finish up my pirate kit. It gets released next week, but it was so good to get it done. I hope my customers like it – I always get so nervous after spending so much time on a kit – hoping that it goes over well. We’ll see. Here is your sneak peek to the kit!

Another cute moment with the kids. I love it when JJ “protects” his sister. They were watching a cartoon together. Just cute!

Friday, September 4, 2009

We made chocolate chip cookies today. The kids couldn’t wait for them to cool down so they could have one! I am going to try and make cookies every Friday – a fun tradition to start!

Saturday, September 5, 2009

We got some beads on Monday and the kids have been so anxious to get their hands on them. We made fun bracelets today that the kids, especially Beth, really enjoyed. Beth has worn the bracelet all week! JJ calls his bracelet, “his watch,” much more masculine right?

Beth also got all her smiley faces again – so Beth and I went out for ice cream at the mall and bought some new princess figurines at the Disney Store! Beth insisted that we buy some surprises for Dad and JJ too, so Dad got some ties and JJ got some Little Einstein Figurines.

After church we were just really tired, so we got in our pjs and just hung around the house for the rest of the day. Sometimes that is the best vacation there is – being together and lounging around the house!

Project 365 | Week 32

For the past couple of weeks I have been completely consumed with designing this new kit line. I have worked on this on and off for months – but the opportunity of a blog train and extra stuff had me getting it ready for this past couple of weeks. I got most of it done last week, but the first half of this week I had to completely dedicate myself to finishing it.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009
aug4
My poor children and hubby had to basically live without me as I worked long, very long hours to finish these up. I stayed up most of the night every night the past few days to get it done.

Wednesday, August 5, 2009
aug5
And then, I finally did it – I finished it. And I have been so amazed and blessed to have the response to it that I have – thank you all of you for your kind words. It has definitely taken a lot out of me to get it done – I need to spend some quality time with my family and away from the computer for awhile! WHEW!

Today we took our monthly visit to Costco to stock up on some needed items! The kids enjoyed getting out of the house – especially since I have been so stuck to my computer lately.

Friday, August 7, 2009

I was trying to do some cleaning and get caught up with things today. I could hear the kids in their room talking and laughing. I was starting to wonder what they were up to when they came out to show me. JJ had dressed his sister up in his superman cape and hat. It was adorable – my little SuperGirl. It is always fun to see JJ taking care of and playing with his sister!

A big day! We woke up early and headed to Lagoon (a local amusement park) to spend the day with Aunt Amy and Uncle Matt and cousins Logan and Alyssa. We actually haven’t seen them in a couple of years and until today, hadn’t even met Alyssa so it was really fun to be with them. The kids really enjoyed the rides and we benefited from an overcast day which was so great that it wasn’t so hot! But since it was a little chilly we didn’t go into the Lagoon-a-Beach like we were going to. Instead we got soaked on the Raft Ride and as we were leaving the park, Beth had to run through the water fountains (she loved it.) We then headed to a park and left Uncle Aaron with the kids and Joey and I went to the Bountiful temple to be with the Mortensens as they were sealed together for Time and All Eternity. We were late, but we made it just in time (of course that made us the center of attention as we walked into the room – sorry Curtis and Anne). But it was a very beautiful ceremony and I am so happy for them. We returned to Curtis and Anne’s home for some refreshments and visiting. We got to meet Brandon and Sabrina’s new little one, Kalissa too, so it was a wonderful day!

Our Family Home Evenings are usually held on Sundays instead of the usual Mondays, just because Joey is usually home. We need to do better at actually having gospel lessons, but we have at least spent some quality time together. Lately it has been introducing the kids to some of our favorite movies that Joey and I watched growing up. Today we watched The Princess Bride! The kids will probably like it better when they get older – but it was still fun to watch it together today.

We had the opportunity to ride on Thomas the Train today. We headed up to the Heber Valley Railroad and joined in the fun little activities and then went on a 25 minute train ride. JJ really loves trains and this was just a great thing to do as a family on Memorial Day.

I got some fun ice cream sandwich molds and we tried them out today to make treats for Beth’s last day of school. They turned out pretty good – I think I need a little more practice – they were messy – but yummy!

Today is my Dad’s 60th Birthday. I hope he knows how much I love and appreciate him. He has and does so much for our family and I am so glad that I am a Daddy’s girl. I love you Dad – Happy Birthday!

JJ’s school had their annual Dance Festival today. This was the first time the Life Skills Class has been able to participate. Joey was able to come too and JJ loved having his family watch him. He did such a good job doing their dance to “Under the Sea.” He was so excited about it and it was a lot of fun to watch!

Today was Beth’s last day at Adventure Time Preschool. She has loved going to school and Miss Megan has been a really wonderful teacher for her. She always has such glowing things to say about Beth and how smart she is. She told me today that they were learning about opposites and she wasn’t sure how to teach the kids that, but Beth got right up in front of the class and yelled out the answers and got the rest of the class involved. She’s going to miss school this summer. But we have her enrolled in a new preschool in the fall that even has dance classes included. Beth is really going to love it!

Today was JJ’s last day of school. Ms. Raines has been an amazing teacher for JJ. He has accomplished so much this year. I’m so grateful for the amazing schools they have for kids with special needs. It truly helps so much. It’s possible that JJ will go to the same school and class next year and I really hope so. He does get to summer school for a few weeks this summer, so I’m hoping that we can stay on track with everything!

We celebrated being out of school today. We took the kids to a double-feature at the movies. We went and saw UP and the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2. They were both really fun movies and I’m really glad we got to take the kids. By the end of the 2nd movie, the kids were getting a little anxious, so I think maybe 2 movies in one day was a little much, but I’m glad we did it anyway. We ate at KFC in between the movies and it was just a fun day out for the family. Poor Joey was pretty wiped out too – he had helped Curtis and Anne move this morning. A good day…

I finished up my next kits today for my upcoming June Challenges and my Featured Designer spot at Digitals. I wanted to have it done earlier, but at least it got done on time. I have a lot to do this upcoming week to get ready to go move cows with my family and hopefully have another kit done before I leave…we’ll see if I actually can get it done!

Being a Daddy’s girl myself – I really love seeing the relationship that has been developing between Joey and Beth. They share some wonderful qualities and they have a great time together.

I got to go on JJ’s field trip with him today. We went to Salem Pond, to the Fishing Day 2009! It was really fun to see JJ holding the pole and catching a fish (with the help of some wonderful fishermen). I wish I could have captured the complete delight on his face as he reeled in the fish. I wasn’t able to get the right angle and there was so many people around. But it was still very fun. We spent a couple of hours there at the pond, fishing and eating hot dogs and potato salad. It was also really fun to see JJ with his classmates and teacher!

I love the beauty of trees. We live in a trailer park with not a lot of space, but we do have a little yard and I’m very grateful for that. And we do have lots of trees around us and they are so beautiful. I walked out on the porch today to check on the kids and happened to glance at the trees and they just looked very beautiful to me. The contrast of the green leaves, the brown bark and the sky was just a wonderful sight!

I have spent the better part of the last 2 weeks working on kits for the So You Think You Can Design Contest. I applied several weeks ago and was selected as one of the 80 participants. I was so excited to make it in. Although I had the disappointment this week of not making it to Round 3, it really has been a good experience. I am grateful that I made it to 2 rounds – I’m grateful that I was even selected in the first place! I am grateful that I was able to get myself known just a little bit more! I’m grateful that my Heavenly Father has given me this creative talent that I have to be able to do this and do it from home so I can still be a wife and mom. I’m grateful for an amazing supportive husband and wonderful kids that put up with me when I am in design mode. And I am extremely grateful for all of the people who enjoy my work and make it possible for me to do this! They truly make my life wonderful!

The Young Women in our ward held a Luau tonight as a fundraiser to help them go to Girls Camp. As it is Joey’s Racquetball and Podcast night and due to having only one vehicle, we opted to get the takeout dinner instead of the sit-down dinner at the church. Meat and rice, vegetables, fruit, chips and salsa, salad, and rainbow sherbet was the meal and it was so yummy! Even the kids ate it all. Joey got the Pulled Pork which he didn’t really care for, but the kids and I enjoyed our Hawaiian Chicken!

Saturday, May 16, 2009

may16
Tonight we had our monthly dinner with Cody and Becki. Becki’s parents and sister also joined us. We had Hawaiian haystacks and it was great. Yea, I guess we are on a Hawaii kick this week. And Prez (Becki’s Dad), made us some homemade ice cream. Yummy! We also got to play on Cody and Becki’s Wii. I had not played before and I really enjoyed it. I usually don’t get into video games and stuff – but this was fun. JJ loved it too! I think the Wii is definitely going to have to be on our Christmas wish list this year.

Joey and I love sharing movies and tv shows together. But we do have differing opinions often on what our favorites are. But we both love the BACK TO THE FUTURE Trilogy. We introduced the first wonderful movie to our kids today and they got a kick out of it. I love sharing these things with my kids as they get older. It’s so much fun!

The kids were eating some lunch and Joey and I were on our computers. We were eavesdropping on their cute conversation about their drinks which was actually Strawberry-Kiwi Juice.

JJ: “I’m drinking root beer.”
Beth: “I’m drinking Moonberry Juice, is that ok?”
JJ: “We’re pretending, it can be whatever we want!”

We got out the kids travel cups today as I am starting to put things together for our trip. Just looking at things and starting to plan out what I want to do and what I want to take. The kids like to play with these cups because they can put it around their necks. Pretty goofy kids – but I’m glad they can find delight in the little things!

JJ’s school is having a read-a-thon this month. Each student who reads at least 500 minutes (or is read to) will receive a pass to a local water park and also a pass to a family fun center. I’ve been really slacking off lately with reading to my kids, so this is a great opportunity to get back on track. We decided to start with The Complete Tales of Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A Milne. This book was one of Joey’s treasures, until we had kids and now it is worn-out. I am going to have to purchase a new copy for Joey someday. But so far the kids are really enjoying being read to EVERY NIGHT!

We got some light snow, but of course it melted later in the day. Today was spent on the computer trying to finish up a new kit. I also had my wonderful Over the Hump Chat tonight. I really love meeting with the members of the Digitals community!

I decided to get an impromtu hair cut today. I had a coupon to Fantastic Sam’s and suddenly felt like I’d like to have a haircut before our vacation. So off Beth and I went and I cut 7 inches off my hair. It feels really great! We also took a trip to Costco and got some snacks for our trip!

Friday, March 6, 2009

I finished my kit today and I think it turned out pretty well. I am definitely excited to be able to use this when I get back from California! The kids and I hung out while Joey did his Friday activities of racquetball and recording of his podcast.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

The kids and I took a day trip to Richfield today to watch my brother play in the State Tournament. Valley took 3rd and I was very happy for them – though I wished for them that they wouldn’t have lost yesterday – they definitely should have been the champions this year – darn it. But they played extremely well. I can’t believe my little brother is 16 years old – he’s gotten so tall! I’m very proud of him!

When I was growing up – Sunday was always pudding night. My siblings and I would make hot Vanilla and cold Chocolate pudding and fight over who got what! LOL I made some chocolate pudding tonight and the kids LOVED it. I think I am going to carry on this tradition for Sunday nights. It’s a great memory of when I was growing up.
