Life 365 | Week 48

We made our countdown to Christmas paper chains today. I was going to wait until next week, but the kids were anxious to do something – so we did it! They were excited to hang them up in their rooms!

nov23
I made navajo tacos for the first time tonight. I think it went over really well!

So the kids didn’t have to go to school today and so they were watching some tv this morning while I was in my room. I suddenly heard the distinct sound that JJ makes when he has a seizure. I ran in and Beth was freaking out. So we waited out the seizure and got Beth calmed down. I was so relieved when he stopped seizing. I hadn’t even realized he had a fever – I knew he was coughing a bit, but had no idea he was as sick as he was. We took him to the doctor and found out he had walking pneumonia but that with some antibiotics he would be fine. JJ slept most of the day and already doing so much better after the first dose of antibiotics.

Because of JJ being sick yesterday I didn’t get packed until this morning and we didn’t leave for Orderville until late afternoon. We had a nice drive and such pretty scenery on our way down though. It was nice to finally get to Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

What a wonderful day. We had a great Thanksgiving dinner in the barn with all of my family – except for Charity and her kids. And then in the evening, was JJ’s baptism. I was so happy with how it turned out. There are so many times where I don’t know what is going on in JJ’s head or how much he is taking in – but tonight, I know he felt the spirit. He was so calm and happy and it just was so great to see him come up from the water with a smile on his face. I was so glad all the family could be there. Both Grandmas gave such wonderful talks and the Grandpas were the witnesses. Cousin Austin played the piano for us and there was just such a wonderful spirit there. I’m so thankful for JJ and for the gospel in our lives. Afterwards, we had our Thanksgiving pie and other desserts and all the men/boys played basketball in their church outfits! It was fun to go over to Kori’s house afterwards and visit and play games.

JJ and I spent the day with Grandpa and Uncle Clint at Sink Valley. We looked for cows, played in the snow, got some wood for Grandma’s fire, and got some Christmas trees. JJ loved being out there and I did too – even though it was pretty cold. It was a fun day, spent with just my buddy. Dad and Beth spent time with the rest of the family at home. Joey helped Grandma with some computer stuff and Beth got to play all day with Whitnee.

We decided not to return home today. The weather was pretty awful, so we just spent another day, playing at Grandma’s house and visiting. It was nice just to be with the family.

I participated in a designer contest and was so excited to find out today that I was selected to become one of the new Faith Sisters designers! I really loved how my mini-kit turned out for the designer contest and am so thrilled to be a part of this great site!

Through freecycle we received a fun mini-trampoline and the kids have really enjoyed it. Beth was so excited to be preparing for her big day tomorrow! We had a meeting with her soccer team today and she got her new uniform!

A big day for Bethie today. Her first day of school AND her first soccer game! Joey was able to come with us for her first day at school and it was fun to see her so excited! She got to ride home on the bus with her brother and of course later, we went to see her play soccer! She has a lot to learn, but it was fun to see her get in there and try!

After the kids got home from school today, we set off on our great vacation adventure. We rode the bus to the Trax Station, rode the Trax to the Frontrunner station, and took the Frontrunner all the way up to Ogden. The kids loved the adventure, especially JJ! They colored in their notebooks and played their Leapsters and just enjoyed the ride. Meanwhile, Joey took our van up to Eden and got our room keys and unpacked and then he picked us up in Ogden and we headed through the canyon to our Worldmark Condo. We picked up some Alpine Pizza and spent the evening settling into our “vacation home.” The kids love our little place – it has a loft and a room for the kids, but their favorite part is the little room under the stairs. The kids are switching off with one of them sleeping in the room under the stairs and the other one sleeping in the bedroom and then they will switch the next night.

After having a wonderful lunch at The Eats of Eden, we headed into Ogden to go to the Treehouse Museum. It was so much fun! There was crafts, playtime, computers, books, puzzles, dress-ups, and all kinds of adventure. We ended our visit by attending the little theatre, where the kids got to act out the story! Beth was being a little scared about that so she just watched, but JJ jumped in and was a bear! It was such a fun place! We traveled back to Eden and went swimming in the fun pool before making dinner and hanging out in our room!

Our adventure for the day was visiting the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park. We saw lots of bones and dinosaur statues and the kids even got to choose a geode, which they cut open right there at the museum. We spent the rest of day hanging out in our little place – watching a little tv, playing the wii, reading, and working on the computer!

We spent a relaxing Sunday inside. I made a breakfast casserole last night and we stuck it in the oven for a wonderful brunch. We just played and hung out in our room and Joey made us a wonderful dinner of pork chops and potatoes.

Life 365 | Week 26

It was such an exciting day for JJ. He left with his cub scout troop at 6:30am for the Jeremiah Johnson Scout Day Camp. JJ has never done anything like this before so I was a little nervous about how he would handle it – but I shouldn’t have worried. He came home about 2pm with a huge smile on his face! His leader told me how amazing he did today and that he actually started initiating conversations with the other boys and just trying and doing his best at everything. I’m so proud of him! He got to make a paper rocket, a wood airplane, and do lots of belt loops and other requirements! It was a wonderful day for him.

Soon after JJ got home – Grandma Smith arrived. She spent the afternoon and evening with us and the kids loved having her play with them. She helped us finish up organizing the toys in the kids room too. We had Uncle Aaron over for dinner and we had some really great conversation. After the kids went to bed and Joey took Aaron home – Mom Smith and I had a long conversation into the night and it was so great to have someone to lean on. Thanks Mom!

jun22

It was a hard day for me. I started the day with a bad panic attack that basically wiped my whole day. I’m so thankful to Joey and the kids for helping me through the day. JJ had his pack meeting tonight and got lots of belt loops from his day camp yesterday. He was so excited!

Wednesday, June 23, 2010
jun23

It was Beth’s last day of Soccer Camp. She had so much fun. The coaches played soccer games with them and then they got to have a huge water fight. Beth was completely drenched and completely happy!

jun24

Grandpa and Grandma Sorensen arrived today. They brought Uncle Clint and cousin Colby and some of their team to the BYU Basketball Camp, so they are staying with us for a couple of days. The kids were so excited to have them here! We attended the boys’ first game at the camp and then we picked up Joey and went to Cabella’s. What a store! The kids were fascinated by the displays! Then we went to IHOP for dinner (since Sizzler was closed before we could get there)!

Friday, June 25, 2010
jun25

It was a fun, busy day. We took JJ to school and then went and watched another basketball game before running Grandpa and Grandma around for this and that. After picking JJ up, we did some more shopping, had lunch, and went to another basketball game. It was fun to just be with my parents and visit!

Another exciting day! Grandpa and Grandma left early to go get some tar in Salt Lake City and they left for home later on in the afternoon. But we didn’t see them after that – because we had a lot to do! It was our DATE WITH THE KIDS DAY! We started by going to JJ’s last Tball game – where he got a fun trophy! Beth and I left a little early and went back home to curl her hair and dress her up. Then we headed over to the wonderful Princess Festival! It was our first year but we will definitely have to plan on making it a tradition. Beth got to go on a treasure hunt for a wonderful princess story & autograph book. She got to go on a princess adventure where she helped all the princesses. We did a little shopping at the booths, ate lunch, and took lots of pictures with the princesses. Beth ADORED it! While we were gone – JJ and Joey headed off to the arcade where they had lunch, played games, and JJ got to play his first laser tag game which he loved! About 3pm we all arrived home – hot and tired, but the kids were so happy! JJ then headed off for an hour of water time fun at a friend’s birthday party. We did a bit of down time before having pizza for dinner. Then we switched and Joey took his little princess to the Ball at the princess festival and JJ and I went to see Toy Story 3 in the theater. Beth had so much fun at the ball with the entertainment, the snacks, and the dancing and JJ really loved the movie! So I think our day was a COMPLETE SUCCESS!

The kids loved that Grandpa and Grandma left them DONUTS! It made for a great snack after church!

Life 365 | Week 22

Monday, May 24, 2010
may24This is what our morning-afternoon looked like! I couldn’t believe it when I looked out the door. The end of May and we are still getting snow storms. JJ went off to school – Joey went off to work – and Bethie (who is still not feeling good) and I stayed home.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010
may25JJ’s Scout Pack Meeting was tonight. They talked about collections and they got to bring their collections with them. JJ is getting quite the collection of Cars Collectibles. His scout leader gave him a new “Doc” (it has eyes that move) and I gave him a new “Lightning McQueen” (that changes color in warm water) for tonight. He was so excited!

Wednesday, May 26, 2010
may26JJ’s school does a Dance Festival every year and this JJ’s second year to participate. This year he did a “Hat Dance” with his Life Skills class and he even go to join in the regular 2nd graders dance too! He was so excited and it was so fun to see him dance and enjoy himself!

Thursday, May 27, 2010
may27Beth has an ear infection now and so she’s on antibiotics and JJ’s starting to get that really bad cough. My poor babies – I hate it when they are sick. JJ went to school anyways, since it was his last full day and he really didn’t want to miss Field/Water day. They got to do all kinds of water activities and lots of fun. I was worried about him all day – but he came home happy and only really started coughing at night.

Friday, May 28, 2010
may28JJ’s very last day of school was today. He only had a 1/2 day and then he came home! To celebrate, JJ and Joey went to the Utah Blaze Football game tonight. They had a good time even though JJ was really not feeling too well and the Blaze lost. Beth and I had a girls night and we watched movies and had dinner from the couch! Beth conked out early so I got some design time in before the boys came home.

Saturday, May 29, 2010
may29We all went to JJ’s first T-ball game today. I was so excited to find an adaptive sports team that JJ could join. He did okay – when he is in the outfield he kind of just spaces out and he is a bit scared of the ball, but not too bad for his first time. I think he had fun – so that is all that matters.

Sunday, May 30, 2010
may30The kids are still recuperating, so we didn’t make it to church again. I hope we can get rid of this darn sickness soon!

It was such a nice evening tonight. I made a nice dinner and Joey’s mom came up to stay the night – she’s on her way to Wyoming to take care of Grandma Smith. Aaron came over for dinner and visiting too. And I was able to get a hold of Chelsea and her husband, Will, and Alicia and her fiance, Brian and they came over to visit. Chelsea and Will left before we got a picture – but it was so nice to visit and catch up. Joey’s side of the family don’t get together too often, so it was just really great.

For Family Movie Night (Joey’s mom joined us) – we watched The Princess Bride. That movie is always such a delight. We had meatloaf for dinner so it was our R.O.U.S’s loaf.

Life 365 | Week 18

Monday, April 26, 2010
apr26It was finally another nice day and my kids couldn’t wait to play outside after school. They played for a few hours and constantly came in to tell me about things they saw and things they were doing. They were very cute. Beth loves worms and JJ helped her find several worms to put in a container of dirt. They kept coming in to show me their findings. It wasn’t until I went out to call them in for dinner that I found out where they were getting all the worms. JJ was tearing out all the bricks that were in the ground to make a pathway by the shed. After being angry about it for awhile, I finally realized how cute it actually was. JJ was helping his sister find worms. He didn’t realize he was moving stuff that wasn’t supposed to be moved. Silly kids.

Tuesday, April 27, 2010
apr27Tonight was JJ’s Pack Meeting. It was so exciting because he got his first 2 awards in the scouting program. He received his Bobcat badge and his Badminton belt loop. Part of getting the bobcat badge was painting lines on JJ’s cheeks. He wasn’t so sure about that one and really didn’t want me to do it. When he saw one of his scoutmates getting it done – he finally let me paint it on him – but as soon as he got home he washed it off – no paint faces for him!

Wednesday, April 28, 2010
apr28A big fan of Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes), Joey wanted our kids to be attached to their stuffed animals. In trying to encourage this, he would ask Beth if she would let him borrow her stuffed tiger (which he had bought for her at the Hogle Zoo and named “Sasha”) at night. This has quickly got out of control as now Beth has to have someone watching Sasha anytime she’s away from the house, and has asked Joey to take Sasha to work with him several times. Joey’s co-workers have got quite the kick out of seeing Sasha’s head popping out of his backpack and attending his meetings. Sasha is Daddy’s “helper” and Beth’s comfort! I’m not sure what we would do if we lost Sasha – let’s hope that it never happens!

Thursday, April 29, 2010
apr29I have some great visiting teachers. I have been so swamped getting ready for NSD and other things that I haven’t had a chance to have them come over this month. They dropped by some yummy banana bread that the kids and I snacked on all day. They really are very sweet.

Friday, April 30, 2010
apr30Joey had an early appointment with his Rheumatologist. It was in Sandy so he was just going to stay up there and work at Pete’s house, but his leg was all swollen in a way that it shouldn’t be, so they decided he needed an ultrasound. They could only find one hospital that could do it today and that was the Timpanogos Hospital here in Orem, so he came back home. At 3pm, he left to go get his ultrasound, with the plan to leave from the hospital to go do his podcast. The kids came home from school, we had snack and playtime and about 5pm, we left to go pickup my cousin, Heather who was in town for the BYU Womens conference. I hadn’t seen her in a year and was very happy to have some time to visit with her. We haven’t actually been close in proximity ever, but I feel like we have kept a pretty good relationship through the years between emailing, and recently through Facebook/blogs. She’s a wonderful person and I’m so glad I had a chance to catch up with her. We picked Heather up and went to Hogi Yogi’s where we had yummy sandwiches and yogurt. Amidst the visiting and handling my wound-up kids, I missed several calls from Joey. Finally JJ interrupted my visiting with Heather and said, “Mom, you’re phone is ringing.” I missed the call again, only to find out that I had missed several calls. I called Joey back and it was now close to 6:30pm and I expected Joey to be in Salt Lake City. But no, he was still at the hospital where he had just been informed that he had 18 blood clots in his leg and 1 in his lung. It was so shocking to hear and especially over the phone where I couldn’t be with Joey. Joey informed me that he was going to go do the podcast now and then we would talk later. So fortunately, I stayed calm – finished visiting with Heather and then dropped her back off at the BYU dorms before heading home. After the kids went to bed, I did research on blood clots, worked on final preparations for NSD, and had a freak out before Joey finally arrived home and we were able to talk. A huge day.

Saturday, May 1, 2010
may1Another crazy day. Joey and I slept in a little bit and then he headed off to the pharmacy to get his medications. Unfortunately, he had a hard time finding a pharmacy with the right stuff – and so when my NSD crop started – he still wasn’t home. The crop went well – even though the kids had a rough time, so I was trying to do my crop and handle the kids at the same time. We made it through and finally Joey got home. Joey’s doing pretty well, but the worst thing is having to give himself injections in the stomach for 5 days. The needle doesn’t really bother him – but the medicine is really hurting him. I just pray that this medicine will help and that we can get the blood clots to go away.

Sunday, May 2, 2010
may2We stayed home from church today. But our home teachers came over and was able to give Joey a blessing and I pray that it will help him through the next several days.

For our Family Movie Night, we watched The Sound of Music and made mexican haystacks for our “hills are alive.” The kids enjoyed it, even though it was quite the stretch to make the movie and dinner match this week!

Life 365 | Week 5

Joey is going to have to work late tomorrow, so we decided to celebrate JJ’s birthday tonight. Joey came home early and we surprised JJ by taking our family to Chuck E Cheese. JJ was so excited to be able to have his favorite food – pizza – and play games! We had a great time together as a family. We came home and JJ got to open his presents – some new scriptures with his name on them, some Transformer toys, and a Spiderman watch.

Happy Birthday to JJ! I can’t believe he is already 8 years old. I made some brownies and he was so excited to take them to share with his class today at school. He came home very happy. While he was at school, Beth and I made his cake and he loved it! Tonight he got to blow his candles out and we ate cake and ice cream for dessert. He also opened some gifts from Grandpa and Grandma Sorensen tonight – he got some markers and Spiderman coloring pages and some sweat pants. He was so excited to be able to have THREE birthday parties this year!

Ever since we had kids, Joey has been mentioning a tradition he wanted to start with the kids. This year, he finally implemented it and it is truly one of the sweetest things ever. He took JJ out on Monday to buy ME (the mom) a present for JJ’s birthday. JJ got to pick out a present for me as a thank you for giving birth and all the things I do as a mom. Isn’t that just so sweet? So JJ got me a book and this adorable Willow Tree Figurine – I think it is just so perfect!

Beth can just be so adorable sometimes. I was doing some cleaning and trying to be motivated not to just play Facebook all day (since I still don’t have my computer back) and I came into the kitchen and she had taken 2 chairs and made herself a little bed. She’s just too cute!

Friday, January 29, 2010
jan29
We introduced the Wii Sports: Tennis game to our kids this week and I love how much fun they are having! Beth loves to dress up in one of her princess gowns to play and JJ had to get on the action and he got into his Spiderman costume! They are just so cute!

Joey was very good to me today and got my favorite Olive Garden take-out for dinner! It was nice not to have to cook and just sit around and be lazy!

Since I still wasn’t in the mood to cook – Joey was very nice and made pork chops and hashbrowns for dinner. It was really fun to see him in the kitchen and the food was great – good job honey!
