Project 365 | Week 48

nov23Bethie’s last day of school this week and they got to have a little Thanksgiving dinner. She had way fun and I thought she looked so adorable in the little pilgrim bonnets/hats that they made!

nov24All packed up to head home to Orderville for Thanksgiving. JJ had his last day of school for the week and when Joey got home from work we drove down.

nov25My mom and I spent today doing all the food preparations for tomorrow’s feast. It was nice to do it today so we could have tomorrow to just be together as a family. My main focus was to make our family’s traditional egg noodles (from my Grandma Sorensen’s recipe). Everytime I make these I think of my Grandma and how much I miss her. I hope she is happy where she is and proud of her family. As my mom and I made food we had a great little visit and made plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was very nice to be there in the home I grew up in and just be with family.

nov26Today we had our first Thanksgiving dinner in my sister Kori’s home. She and her family have restored my Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma Esplin’s home and its so beautiful. I’m so happy for her and her family to have this wonderful home to live in and its wonderful that the old home can be used again. We have been having our Thanksgiving dinners out in the barn every year because it was the only place we could fit us all, but now Kori has this wonderful big home that she shared with us this year. I loved having all of us together. It was good to see Charity – I haven’t seen her in awhile and she is looking good and she and her kids have moved into a nice trailer, so I’m glad things are going well for her.

nov27Since I didn’t get any pictures today, since we just drove back to Orem, I decided to share what else we did yesterday. After our Thanksgiving dinner, we helped Kori and her family put up their lights. Okay, so mostly we just visited and laughed as others did it – but it was a hoot. So how many people does it take to get the lights up on the house – well there was Ray to hold the rope that was attached to Colby so he wouldn’t fall (the roof was very slippery and steep), Kori to help with the rope on the roof, and Joey and Austin to provide moral support. LOL After getting the lights put up and playing more at Grandma’s, we had dessert at Grandma’s and then went back to the house for the lighting of the old house! We visited a little more and Beth got to have her very first sleepover – with Whitnee! She did so good. We also watched a movie with my Dad – which is always a wonderful tradition!

nov28Today was our niece’s wedding day. I can’t believe that Chelsea and Alicia are old enough to be married, but they are. It was nice to have Joey’s parents come and visit with us and good to have most of the family together for awhile. The wedding was nice and it was very beautiful with the Christmas decorations. Some good food too. Congratulations Chelsea!

nov29Last week, these huge giftbags were dropped off for the kids as an early Christmas gift. The kids wanted to open them then, but I decided it will be nice to wait to have another gift under the tree for Christmas. I feel so blessed that someone out there thought of my kids – thank you to whoever you are!

Project 365 | Week 45

nov2I love it when my kids are silly and happy at the same time! Today I was working on my computer in the bedroom and I could hear laughter coming from the living room. A second later the kids came bursting in – they had found 2 pairs of Joey’s racquetball glasses and they thought it was hilarious to put them on. I quickly grabbed the camera and took a photo – my kids are too cute!

nov3Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed. – G. K. Chesterton

I heard this quote on twitter today and just loved it. My kids love hearing stories and watching movies and just using their imagination. I love hearing them imagine and play together and I really do think that fairy tales help them to learn about life and how to truly LIVE in it. Thank goodness for good stories!

nov4I’m on a GILMORE GIRLS kick again. This show holds a lot of sentimental value to me. It started after Joey and I had been married for a few months and it was the first show we watched together. We watched every episode together until the show ended and it just became a part of us – our family. Everytime I rewatch it – its like I’m reliving my life and also like I’m a part of Stars Hollow. I seriously want to live in that town! 🙂 Anyways, so I am rewatching it as I am designing and it is always a nice thing. In fact, it makes me want to have another baby girl so I can name her Rory. 🙂

nov5Showers have become the norm around here, but the kids still enjoy an occasional bathtime! Actually the kids always love it – its me that makes them take a shower because its faster. I really am trying to slow down my life because a bath really is a nice thing to do every once in awhile!

nov6I love watching Joey play with the kids. He’s so much better at it than I am. I’m always feeling the stress of my to-do lists and I don’t take the time to get on the floor and play, but Joey does it. It’s not uncommon to find him even playing ponies or dolls with Beth. He’s such a good daddy.

nov7Our day started very early. We are not morning people, but we were able to book a early morning family photo shoot with a photographer in my church. I have been following her blog for awhile and finally got talking to her and was able to do a trade with her – I designed her some design stuff and she did a photo shoot for me. We left the house at 7:30am and went to a fun railroad location and spent about an hour getting fun shots of our family, Joey and I as a couple, and individual shots of the kids. I really can’t wait to see how they turned out! Thank you Maria!

nov8We went to Salt Lake City for church today. We were able to go and be with Brandon and Sabrina as they blessed Kalissa. Afterwards we were able to join friends/family at their house and visit for awhile. We even watched the end of the Colts game at their house (they barely won – but we’ll take it). Then we went home and relaxed for the rest of the day. It was one of those days where we needed comfort food – so for dinner I made some homemade noodles with vegetables and served it over mashed potatoes. SO GOOD!

Everyday when we take JJ to summer school we pass these fields that are filled with these thistles. I am amazed at how big they grow and even though they are actually weeds and are just nuisances, they have a bit of beauty to them too. I had to stop and get some photos of them today!

Growing up, my grandma’s egg noodles was a special treat that we only got at Thanksgiving and possibly Christmas. My family always liked the egg noodles over mashed potatoes. Now, whenever I make her egg noodles I think of her and miss her. My Grandma lived right next door to me growing up and I saw her almost every day of my life up until she died when I was a junior in high school. I was in the mood for the egg noodles today so I whipped some up to go with the leftover mashed potatoes I had. I think it is one of the most comforting and filling foods there is! YUMMY!

Since we are ditching the kids this weekend we decided we needed to do a little something extra special with them so we decided to camp out on our lawn. The kids got a real kick out of the tent and we had hot dogs for dinner. It was fun to see them so delighted! Next time though we will get something to get the mosquitos to stay away! Ouch.

We headed out today to start our anniversary getaway. Joey and I both had our ipods going and it was nice to just relax and listen to music. I don’t usually do that – but it helped our trip down to go much faster. The kids were so happy to see their cousins when we got to Orderville. We spent the afternoon/evening with my sister Kori and her family. It was great to visit and play. Joey was able to offer them a little computer help too and we went out to dinner together. I really enjoy spending time with my sister and her family. We slept at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s house and visited with them for awhile when they got back from the ranch.

We left the kids with Grandma and headed to St. George this morning. We went through a session in the temple and it was so nice to be able to go there together. We had the opportunity to stay in an awesome penthouse condo for our weekend getaway. Although St. George was REALLY HOT – it was nice to be in an extra nice (air-conditioned) condo! We had a king size bed, jacuzzi tub, full kitchen, and a hot tub on our deck. We enjoyed lounging around in the condo that was bigger than our own trailer house! We watched some movies, took a dip in the hot tub and just relaxed and spent time together. Joey even made me food – I didn’t have to cook! And that is something that is VERY RARE – he made the best pork chops for us. YUMMY! It was a really fun time!

It has been awhile since we have been able to go to the Utah Shakespearan Festival. I feel very grateful that I am married to a man who enjoys going to plays as much (probably even more) as I do. He was into Technical Theatre big time in high school and did a lot of stage managing. So being able to see 2 plays was just a real treat. We saw Henry V on Friday night and The Secret Garden on Saturday. They were just wonderful! We also got the opportunity to see a play in the Adams Shakespearean Theatre for the first time. It is an outdoor theatre designed after the theatre that Shakespeare himself used and it was really awesome!

We checked out and headed to Orderville today to pick up the kids. We ate lunch at Grandma’s house and headed home. The kids and I napped a bit on the way home – it was extremely hot and put us all to sleep – good thing Joey stayed awake! I did look back to check on the kids as we started the trip and caught this little scene with JJ. He was all comfortable with his feet rested on the arm of the seat in front of him with a grin on his face. He had tons of fun at Grandma’s and at Sink Valley, but I think he’s glad to be going home! Beth wanted to stay at Grandma’s too where she is spoiled to death – but it was really good to see them both and be home.
