Life 365 | Week 34

This morning, JJ and Beth took their stuffed tigers (Con and Sasha) and put them in Joey’s backpack so they could “help” Dad at work. It was pretty adorable to see their heads sticking out of the backpack as Joey headed out the door! Unfortunately, Joey ended up being really late coming home tonight and Beth really wanted Sasha back to sleep with her. But I finally got her to go to sleep and when Joey came home he tucked Sasha in beside Beth. She was very happy in the morning!

We finally got JJ in for his school haircut today! We decided to just buzz it off so that it would last longer. He looks great! We also finished our school shopping today so we’re all set for next week!

We surprised the kids with tickets to go to the outdoor movie tonight! We saw The Princess and the Frog (even though we already have the DVD). It was still fun to take blankets and pillows and be in our PJs and watch a movie outside. Just as the movie finished it started raining, so it worked great!

I love sunsets. I haven’t taken the time to watch them this summer so this one snuck up on me and it was really beautiful! I need to remember to take just a little time to think and to see the beauty instead of rushing around so much.

Unfortunately, Beth has developed her daddy’s sense of style. This morning when Joey and I got up, we discovered that Beth had already gotten dressed today. Her choice of the day – a pink plaid skirt and a navy blue/pink striped polo shirt. I tried to explain to her why it didn’t match, but that just made her sad, so no smiles for the photo. It was just kind of a bad day for all of us. Unfortunately, she stayed grumpy all day and I wish I just wouldn’t have said anything. I had fallen asleep reading last night and forgot to take out the BBQ chicken that was cooking in the crockpot for my dinner exchange tomorrow – so I completely burned it and had to start over again. But the highlight of the day – was having hamburgers and homemade fries and having Pete come over to share it with us. Joey and Pete did their podcast down here this week and its always nice to have Joey home sooner!

I took the family with me to my dinner exchange today and then we headed up to tour the Church History museum. It has changed a lot since I had last been there, but it was still fun to see all the interesting things they had. I especially enjoyed their Presidents of the Church exhibit with information about all the prophets. When we got home, we relaxed a bit before having dinner at Carrabas and playing at Nickel City. We played Laser Tag, which we all enjoyed so much – even Beth! And we played in the arcade for awhile before turning in our tickets for small prizes and headed home. We all had a great day!

This spring, we kind of went on a hiatus from the Wii, but we brought it back this summer and the kids have had a really good time. We have kind of returned to our nightly ritual of a little family wii time before bed.

The kids started their swimming lessons today. JJ has had some swimming experience since they have a special ed program at BYU the last couple of years in school – but Beth has never had lessons. JJ was pretty comfortable in the water but Beth was pretty scared. But it went well and they both had a good time!

JJ’s pack meeting was at the park this month. JJ got some more belt loops and I’m really proud of him. I’m happy that he is enjoying scouts. We stuck around a little while after to play on the playground!

Beth played at Annie’s house today and she had such a good time. She always loves to have someone to play with and being able to go to someone else’s house is always a treat!

We worked on more activities for the Summer Challenge on education.com today! We made math bugs and the kids loved it!

The kids couldn’t wait to have their campout on our lawn tonight. All day they were so excited! We had hotdogs and smores which we ate outside – picnic style! We looked at the stars and spotted some constellations. We told some stories and played games and then slept in the tent! It was a great time!

We took Trax to the Salt Lake City library today. The kids were so excited about all the books and how fun the building is. They loved the fun children section and riding the glass elevator! JJ loved looking at all the comic books! It was a fun afternoon! In the evening, Grandpa & Grandma Sorensen, Clint, and Lane showed up to spend the night! It was nice to visit and have them with us.

Grandpa and Grandma got Lane off to his Freedom Academy and headed home while we were in church. So a short visit, but it was nice to have them here. Tonight there was some incredible lighting in the sky at sunset!

Wednesday SayingZ | Toy Story

{ This week’s quote }
The Toy Story movies have always held a special place in my heart and the newest Toy Story 3 is no exception. I feel like a kid again when I watch these movies and I am reminded of my favorite childhood toys and I have to say that I was a bit like Andy in the way that I played. I’m so thankful to be blessed with an imagination and I always believed that my toys “came to life” when I was not there. My toys were real pals to me. So I can’t help but be incredibly emotional when I watched the last movie. I hope my kids will have that same imagination and will have toys that they treasure and that help them through life. So in tribute to these amazing Toy Story movies:

Now, you gotta promise to take good care of these guys. They, mean, alot to me. Now Woody, he’s been my pal for as long as I can remember. He’s brave, like a cowboy should be. And kind, and smart. But the thing that makes Woody special, is he’ll never give up on you… ever. He’ll be there for you, no matter what.[taking a last look at his toys before he heads off to college] Thanks, guys.
– Andy from Toy Story 3 –

Family History TuesdayZ | Favorite People

Journal Prompt: Who are some of my favorite people? Why?

Journal Prompt: Who are some of my favorite people? Why?Journal Prompt: Who are some of my favorite people? Why?

Family History TuesdayZEach Tuesday, I am going to be offering prompts or ideas. If you don’t write in your journal regularly – I am going to encourage you to write just ONCE A WEEK and answer the question/idea that I give on Tuesdays. These ideas hopefully will spark a memory and you will be able to capture that in what you write/record so that it can be left for your children/grandchildren/family/friends. Give as much detail as you can when answering.

Will you do this for me? Will you do this for your families? You can write it down in a journal, you can type it up on a computer or journaling software, you can take a recorder and talk, you can videotape your answers, you can even scrap a page with the journaling. It doesn’t matter how you do this – it’s just important that you do it. The memories, the dates, the information is the only real thing we can leave to our families when we are gone.

Life 365 | Week 10

Monday, March 1, 2010
mar1JJ hasn’t really had too much homework in the past, except for a bit of reading. This week, his teacher decided to start some spelling/handwriting homework and JJ was so excited to get to do a little work at home. It was fun to see him so excited about school work and to see more of what he is learning at school.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010
mar2I haven’t felt real well this week and have been spending most of my time working on design stuff. What really helps me to be creative is watching movies while I work. The past little while I have been watching Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. This show was really the only tv show I watched when I was a kid and its been fun to watch it again.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010
mar3Beth loves it when I let her take a bath while I take a shower – usually in the middle of the day when I finally get around to it. She will play in the bath tub for over an hour before she wants to get out!

Thursday, March 4, 2010
mar4Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! JJ came home with lots of tales of fun Dr. Seuss activities they had at school today and immediately got out his Dr. Seuss books to read for the rest of the day!

Friday, March 5, 2010
mar5No school today and we woke up to some snow. It was so pretty and peaceful. I’m still not feeling real great – so the kids and I hung at home today. Joey took Mike Casetta to a movie for his birthday and we went over to the Casetta’s house for a surprise party when they got out of the movie.

Saturday, March 6, 2010
mar6Since we had the birthday party last night, Joey went to do his podcast today instead. We just hung out at home again today. When Joey did get home, the kids and him played a little game – a mixture of soccer/keep away/and just passing the ball. Joey’s foot is still not doing too well, and he is still on crutches – but the crutch seemed to come in handy tonight in their game!

Sunday, March 7, 2010
mar7With me not feeling well, Joey didn’t think he could handle the kids alone in church since he’s not getting around too well. So we stayed at home today. Joey and I slept longer than the kids and when we finally got out of bed – this is what we found. The kids had built themselves a fort. I think I am pretty lucky to have 2 kids who will entertain themselves!
