Life 365 | Week 49

We traveled home today and the kids got to skip school. Cleaning and doing laundry and trying to get organized for the following week!

The kids were excited to go back to school today. They love wearing their warm coats and boots to school – having snow is exciting.

The kids were so excited to start our Countdown to Christmas Advent Calendar. I created a new one this year and was so happy with how it turned out. I used a shoe organizer (that has exactly 24 holes – how perfect is that) – and created some date pages to put on the outside and used some fancy clothespins. In each hole – is a card with an activity on it! Today’s activity was to decorate the tree – so we brought the tree in and decorated while listening to Christmas music.

Today’s activity was to drink hot chocolate by the tree. The kids thought it was so much fun!

I was so excited for tonight’s activity. The kids got home from school and were surprised to see Cody, Becki and Mallory there. I had them read the card in our advent calendar – and surprise – we are heading on vacation to Eden with Cody and Becki! They were thrilled to be able to go back to our “vacation home”! So a few hours later, we arrived at Worldmark. We were able to get a 3-bedroom condo this time and it was fancy! We loved it! So we all settled in – decorated our little tree – went grocery shopping, and ate pizza for dinner. We are all so excited to have this special time together.

It was such a fun day. We did crafts, played the wii, played some card games, ate great food, and just had such a great time relaxing and enjoying being together. We topped the night off by heading to Eden’s Town Tree Lighting where the kids got to see Santa!

We are having such a lovely time and we are thinking of making this a yearly tradition! It was Mallory’s very first birthday today and we are so happy that we were able to celebrate with her. We had cupcakes and dinner and present opening! The kids watched Christmas movies all day and just another great day of being together! Happy Birthday Mallory – we love you!

Project 365 | Week 40

Monday, September 29, 2009
sep28Beth was such a good girl today. She was my little helper and since I couldn’t carry things since I had to use crutches, she helped me do laundry and dishes. I am so grateful that my kids are old enough to be independent and able to help me as I just feel so helpless right now. I’m also so grateful to Cody for his help picking Beth up from school! I couldn’t do this without the help I’m getting from my family!

Tuesday, September 30, 2009
sep30Joey’s parents came up today and took our car to get it fixed. We haven’t been able to use the car for over a year and it isn’t even licensed, so we are so grateful that they were able to come up and get it. Our parking space looks so bare now since Joey’s car is gone and we moved the van over to the guest parking until we can get it to my Dad to fix it. I’m so grateful to Pete for letting us use his car for awhile and for all the help our parents are giving us. I think this trial is definitely teaching me patience and to be humble.

Wednesday, September 31, 2009
sep29Quite the storm we had last night – lots of wind! And we had another huge branch of the tree fall on our trailer. It even woke the kids up.

Thursday, October 1, 2009
oct1JJ was so excited to finally get to wear his Spiderman shirt to school. The weather has turned cooler this week so we are pulling out some of the long-sleeve shirts and this is JJ’s new favorite shirt. Thursdays are always fun days as it is PIZZA DAY at JJ’s school and that is his favorite food – you can even see some of the sauce still on his face!

Friday, October 2, 2009
oct2Beth loves to stack up her toys when she is playing. I loved her little circle of Disney Princesses and My Little Ponies. I was playing with her the best I could – since I couldn’t get down on the floor with her with my hurt foot. Joey’s dad got our car fixed, so Joey hitched a ride to St. George with Clark and brought the car back up today. He got back way early in the morning but its good to have our car back.

Saturday, October 3, 2009

We listed to General Conference today and we also returned Pete’s car. We just hung out together as a family and when Joey saw that CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS was playing we decided to head to the movie very last minute. It was a fun way to spend an evening and a cute movie!

Sunday, October 4, 2009

It was nice to just stay in our pajamas today and watch General Conference. It is so nice to be spiritually uplifted by hearing from the prophet and the apostles. In between sessions we whipped up a batch of Ghost Pancakes! The kids thought it was so much fun!

What do you do when are gone for over a week? Laundry, laundry, and more laundry! I think it’s going to take me a couple of weeks to get caught up with some design stuff, laundry, and getting the house clean.

Today was JJ’s first day of Summer School. He was so excited! It’s an exciting thing that they have going this year. The Alpine School District and BYU have combined together to offer the special education students some more education for 5 weeks this summer. It gives BYU Students who are going to school to teach special ed the chance to actually work with students. JJ’s teacher, Ms. Raines was in his classroom and he was so excited to see her! He also has a new teacher, Miss Sharp. He seemed to have a really great day and was excited to show me his fun artwork!

I’m coming down with a cold and just wasn’t myself today. Headache and runny nose and just so tired! So I didn’t accomplish a whole lot today but the kids were amazingly well. They played together so good and just let me rest. Plus they were happy with their not so nutritional lunch (since I just wasn’t up to making much). They loved their cheesy fries and grapes and apple juice – hey, at least they got some fruit!

I love Pajama Days! I completely slacked off today and didn’t get up in time to get JJ off to school. Instead we just all hung out in our pajamas today. We played, watched movies, and just accomplished NOTHING. I think I just need this kind of thing every once in a while!

Today was the day! We have now been married for 10 years! I did a lot of reflecting today as I caught up on some housework. I love Joey so much! I’m so happy that we are married – he is my best friend. After the kids went to bed, and Cody and Becki came over to tend, we went to a late movie. We saw THE PROPOSAL with Sandra Bullock and I LOVED it. I haven’t seen a movie (chick flick) that I liked so much in a long time. It was awesome time and I am so glad I got to watch it with Joey. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

We went swimming at the Fitness Center today. The kids really love being in the water. I really should get them lessons some time – but for now Joey and I are trying to teach a little bit. They had a great time and Beth cried all the way home because she didn’t want to stop.

Joey came up with an awesome idea today. He’s really a wonderful dad! He came up with a lunch treasure hunt! I made the lunch and he hid each piece with clues for the kids to find them on a paper bag. Then the kids found the item and placed it in their bag. When they had finished the hunt, we spread a blanket out on the living room and watched a movie (Treasure Planet) while eating our picnic. The kids loved it. A wonderful thing for them to do on Father’s Day! 🙂

Lately, the kids have been taking showers instead of baths. It is just faster and usually by that time at night, I just want to get them in bed. But they really do love to play in the bathtub. They will beg to stay in “just a few more minutes.” And they love to see how wrinkly their hands get. They think it is just so cool how they get wrinkly hands and then it goes away!

I love the Rain. I love cloudy days. I love the coolness of the air and the feeling of just wanting to be home and relaxing. Today was one of those days. The kids and I spent some time outside in the rain and we took some fun photos. The kids loved hearing the thunder and it was just fun. I had always wanted to take a photo with rain against the window – but my point-and-shoot camera would never take a good one – I was excited to play with my DSLR today and get some fun shots!

I LOVE cheese fries and The Training Table has the best cheese fries with their awesome fry sauce (Hickory sauce and mayo). I was craving it today so since Joey got home early from work we went out to eat. YUMMY!

It was time for summer haircuts! JJ had been needing one for a long time, but I just never got it done. But today we used a coupon and went and got it done. Beth got a couple inches off her hair too and I think they look really great!

We are leaving today to head down south. Laundry, Cleaning, and Packing has filled my day! This little trip happens every year in the first part of June. We go out to the Arizona Strip to help my Dad (Grandpa) move the cows to Sink Valley (or ranch). I have always loved this time of year. It’s a time of hard work, but laughter and being with the family. It’s a “time out” from the world. No electricity, no internet access, no tv…..a time of unplugging and just being together as a family for a whole week. I’m kind of having a hard time going this year – but, I think it’s just because Joey isn’t able to come with us. He is taking us down today, but has to come right back and work and then he will pick us up next weekend. Hopefully he will be able to come with us next year…

We stayed at my parent’s last night. Joey drove us to Orderville and then turned around and drove right back to Orem. He stopped and slept a little while but made it in the wee hours of the morning. He had a podcast to do this morning. The kids slept pretty good but woke early. They were so excited to be going out to Bull Rush. We helped Grandma run errands and pick up some things that she had forgotten to take. Everyone else was already out there. We waited for my brother, Clint to arrive from his scout campout so that he could come with us. Finally by late afternoon we were on our way – the kids could hardly stand it any longer. We got almost to the Bull Rush house and we met Grandpa with the Peterbilt, full of cows. The kids and I hopped aboard and made the trip with him to Sink Valley (our ranch). This was the 2nd of 6 loads to make. We got the cows out of the trailer and up the lane. The kids enjoyed riding the Gator to close the gate after the cows went through. Grandpa had to gas up so the kids played around the house for a bit and then we headed back. The kids loved riding in the big truck’s sleeper. We made it back to Bull Rush in time for Dutch Oven Potatoes for dinner.

The Peterbilt had some problems and Grandpa had to run back into town for some parts. So we got to hike around some canyons and visit with family! The best part of this annual trip for us is that the kids get to be with their cousins! Beth loves to be with Whitnee and they played pretty well together even though Whitnee is a couple of years older. And JJ just adores Austin. He is so good with the kids and takes really good care of JJ! Aunt Kori and I got to visit and take lots of pictures with our Nikon D40s. It was fun to share tips and just talk. After we hiked for awhile, we headed back to the house, where we just did NOTHING for the rest of the day!

We are looking forward to a week from today – we are going to go play at the DAY OUT WITH THOMAS on Memorial Day. We will participate in the fun activities beforehand and then get to ride on the train with Thomas the Engine pulling. I told the kids about it today and they were so excited, so we got out our Thomas the Train Set for awhile. JJ especially LOVED IT!

The weather has been so hot lately – and we still haven’t gotten our swamp cooler running yet. And all this summery weather has gotten me in the mood for FRUIT. So I bought a lot of it over the weekend and we have been having fruit salad for snacks. I love that my kids are starting to eat more fruit too! Much healthier snack than we have been doing. And every time I am cutting up the fruit, I just have to sing the Wiggles song, “Fruit Salad, yummy yummy….”

The kids have been taking showers lately – just because it is faster. But they really have been missing bathtime. So tonight, I let them each play in the tub for awhile. They especially loved the bubbles I put in!

Thursday is usually when I START the laundry. It’s one of those mundane things and so I procrastinate it and of course it isn’t put away until at least Saturday. Beth hopped in the Dryer today when I was getting clothes out. I swear she is getting cuter every day!

I have really slacked off in making cookies. When I just had JJ, I used to make cookies every week or so. Not sure why I totally stopped doing that. I love chocolate chip cookies, they are my favorite. I just haven’t found the time to make them. So today, I decided that we really needed cookies. Pete is coming down here for racquetball and their podcast this week, and so I am making Chicken Enchiladas for dinner and I thought Cookies would be a great dessert tonight. Plus they are just coming out of the oven now and that means JJ can have a warm cookie right after he gets home off the bus! What is better than a warm cookie for snack after school! And it’s Friday – and I need chocolate! 🙂

The kids had a picnic on our lawn today. They were too cute in their interactions with each other as they played and ate their lunch. JJ was using funny voices for his dinosaur stuffed animal and making his sister laugh.

I want to always remember the cute things that the kids say and I’m trying hard to remember to write these things down. We were out on a drive and it was raining and JJ said in a cute sing-songy voice: “We’re going on a special trip. Do you want to come with us, Rain? Just drop down on the van and we’ll take you.”

The roses in our yard are blooming. I just love roses. They always remind me of my Grandma Sorensen and the beautiful Peace Roses she had in her yard. I miss her. I can’t believe she has been gone for 13 1/2 years now. She lived right next door and I saw her almost everyday of my life up until she died. I hope she is watching out for her family as she always did. Love you grandma.

The worst part about a vacation is that you come back and have to do all the laundry, unpack, and try and catch up from all the time you missed. We are all SO tired today. I think it is going to take a couple of weeks to recover. I got a start on the laundry and working on getting all my photos organized and unpacking. I’m just too tired to get it all done right now. JJ was excited to go back to school today and tell his teacher all the fun stuff he has been doing, but he came home pretty tired and onery.

Tuesday, March 31, 2009
mar31
Beth’s turn to be all excited about going back to school. She wore her new Cinderella shirt and got to share her new Princess dolls for Show-and-Tell. We are still trying to recover. I’m slowly getting unpacked. I had to license our van today and did a little grocery shopping. I feel like I have so much catching up to do and I don’t know how I’ll get it all done.

Maybe I’ll just go take a nap instead – wait, it’s 6pm, I guess I’ll have to wait until night now….darn it!

Beth loved the paper chain countdown to Disneyland so much that we decided to do one for her birthday. I can’t believe she’s going to be 4! She’s growing up so fast. I really love her imagination. Today, I looked over to see her imagination in full force. She had a blank piece of paper, a straw from her juice cup, a tray from some store-bought cookies and she was “painting.” She didn’t need real paints or anything else – she was painting and she could “see” it all.

I haven’t been able to do much this week – I just haven’t felt good. So instead of catching up on all the things I need to do – I laid on the bed and finished the whole Twilight series again. I love books and the Twilight books are quickly becoming a favorite. I get so engrossed in them that I just can’t stop reading it. I read all 4 books in 2 days!

Friday, April 3, 2009

JJ brought home a cup with a little wheatgrass (I think that is what it is). He had drawn a cute face on it. A little water, sun, and a few days later, we had lots of grass! Lots of fun!

I truly love it when my kids play together. It is so fun to just watch them play and listen to their fun conversations. They were playing with JJ’s new Mac (from Disney’s Cars) and I love that Beth can be so girly and yet will go play trucks with JJ too! It was the start of General Conference today too. I really enjoyed listening to our prophets and hearing their words of wisdom and encouragement. I am so glad that I live in a place that I can turn on the tv and listen to the wonderful words and that I can do it from my own home!

Sunday, April 5, 2009
apr5
Today was filled with the spirit as we listened to the last 2 sessions of General Conference. I feel so blessed to be a member of the church and to have so much spiritual inspiration from the leaders of the church. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by all the things I need to do better, but something I took out of this conference was inspiration about taking it a little at a time. I know I have so much to learn and so many changes I should make in my life to be a better person, but I’m trying now to just do a little at a time. Such a wonderful blessing to have these General Conferences twice a year where we get to hear from the Prophet and all the Apostles. It truly lifts my spirits and helps me to endure through my trials. I love the gospel and I have a testimony that Heavenly Father and Jesus lives and they love us. I know they hear and answer prayers. I am so grateful to my Savior for his sacrifice for me. Where would I be without the gospel? I am just truly truly blessed.

And here is my weekly layout:
