Life 365 | Week 17

Monday, April 19, 2010
apr19Late last night I discovered that Persnickety Prints was just up the street and I had an awesome email conversation with the owner. So I prepared several of my layouts to test drive their service and sent it over early this morning. Today’s photo was actually taken on Wednesday, when I picked the layouts up. They are so awesome! Its so exciting to see my work actually printed! I’ve made it a new goal to get a few more pages done each week. JJ and Beth have been getting after me to get more pages done because they love to look through the albums and see pictures of themselves!

apr20I spent all morning and early afternoon in Riverton with JJ. We went to see a Rheumatologist about some weird bumps on JJ’s big toes. It turns out that everything is okay – they are actually callouses that JJ has developed by curling his toes when he is walking with his shoes on. We are going to have to see what to do about that – but everything is okay. When we finally got back to Orem, I dropped JJ off for the last couple hours of school and picked up Beth from Cody and Becki’s. Beth cried and sulked because she didn’t want to leave – she was having way too much fun with Uncle Cody and Aunt Becki. But I finally got her cheered up by letting her have a tea party on the kitchen table with some of her animal friends!

apr21Beth was so excited because today was Daddy & Doughnuts Day. We curled Beth’s hair all pretty for her date with Dad. Joey spent the last half hour of school with Beth, visiting and eating doughnuts. Beth made her daddy a colored tie to wear too. They were so happy to spend some time together!

apr22Poor Bethie had to get shots today. We went in for her 5-year-old/getting ready for Kindergarten appointment. Beth was so sad and sore the rest of the day. She wouldn’t take a nap but she obviously wasn’t feeling well because she wouldn’t even move off of the couch and that is just not like my Bethie girl. For a few hours her legs stiffened up so bad that I had to carry her around, even to use the bathroom. But finally when her daddy came home – she was feeling pretty good.

apr23Spring weather is so much fun! We even got out the popsicles today! The kids loved it and they were so cute sitting in the same chair and watching a movie together. Have I said how much I love it when they get along? We also made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies today!

Saturday, April 24, 2010
apr24We had a Primary activity this morning at the church, so JJ, Beth and I went and learned about some of the prophets in the Bible, while Daddy went and helped Clark with his computer. After we returned home, we packed up a picnic and headed to Liberty Park in Salt Lake City for lunch and fun with the Mortensens! It was fun to relax and enjoy the spring weather – even though their were tons of people at the park today. We played some frisbee and football, played on the playground, and the kids enjoyed playing with Curtis and Anne’s kids and their new puppy. The kids played so hard that when we got home – we all took a long nap!

apr25I had procrastinated getting ready for my new calling – so I stayed up very late (like 4 in the morning) and finished up some fun things for the kids to hold while we had singing time. Thank goodness Joey helped me or I don’t think we would have gotten any sleep. But I think it was worth it. The Sunbeam singing time went great and I’m a lot less nervous about it now!

For our Family Movie Night tonight we watched Batteries not Included and made mini pizzas (our flying saucers) for dinner! The kids loved being able to put the toppings on themselves! Another movie night success!

And here is my weekly layout:

Beth had her special Christmas program at Center Stage today. Joey and I got to watch her sing, dance, and we even got to see what they were learning in Karate. She had so fun and she did her part very well. They had a special visitor at the end of their performance and Santa came to visit!

It was JJ’s last day of school today and we did the final preparations for Christmas. I started doing a bit of cleaning and then we got to babysit Baby Mallory while Uncle Cody and Aunt Becki did some shopping. The kids LOVED having a baby in the house!

I didn’t get an advent calendar done/bought this year and I couldn’t figure out something to do to help the kids countdown the days. Then last week JJ brought home a countdown chain and it was perfect. Of course, we had to make one for Beth too. We got a little behind this week in taking a chain off because of all the activities, so the kids got to take 3 chains off tonight and that was just awesome.

I love our Christmas stockings. They were all made by my Aunt LaRae and it has been a family tradition. Mine of course is the oldest since I have had it for as long as I can remember and its so neat that Aunt LaRae has kept making them as our family has grown! My brothers and sisters still have theirs and have them for their children too!

Today I did a cleaning of the house and it took all day. The kids were just so excited that it was Christmas Eve! The day was just way too long for them. But finally I finished cleaning and it was evening. Dad came home and we started our evening by having Pancakes and eggs for dinner! Then the kids got to open up 1 gift – their new Pjs! They loved them and was so excited to get into them. They had baths and jumped into their pjs. We watched JOY TO THE WORLD – a little 1/2 hour film by the church that talked about Jesus and his birth with music from the Tabernacle Choir. It was then time for Bed. I was so surprised how fast they went to sleep!

Christmas Day finally arrived and it was truly a wonderful day. The kids let us sleep in until 8:30 and it was amazing! Santa found us and brought the kids a Leapster 2 and some games for each of them. We have only had 1 Leapster and now we have 2 so they each can play at the same time. So great! They also got candy, play dough, and new toothbrushes.

Before opening presents, we had some breakfast and watched A KING IS BORN – the classic animated film that I watched every Christmas Eve growing up. I think it was wonderful to help the kids remember what Christmas is about and it was nice to do that before opening presents. The kids loved all their gifts and it was so awesome to hear how grateful they were for every present. Beth just kept saying, “Oh, I love it so much – thank you mommy.” Beth got a My Little Pony House with a pony, long-sleeved shirts and pants, Disney Princess Sticker/Coloring Book, Snowglobe, puzzle, Snow Boots, Winter Coat, and 4 amazing Princess Dresses. JJ got a Thomas the Train Set, Spiderman Legos, Bubbles, new shoes, winter coat, and snow boots. And the most amazing surprise of all was our last present. Joey surprised us with a WII! I had no idea, but he had been doing some extra contract work so he could save up and buy us one. It is so awesome. I have really been wanting to have one and now we do!

We spent the rest of Christmas playing with all of our new toys and just enjoying each other. I had a ham in the crockpot cooking all night so by noon it was done and we had a Funeral potatoes with our ham. SO GOOD!

dec26We spent all day in our pajamas playing with our new toys today, especially the Wii. It was so fun to watch our kids enjoy it and its something we can do together as a family. Right now the only thing we have that the kids can do is bowling, and they love it. They each have it down pretty good and its so fun to see them play. Beth already has a classic move of rolling the ball and ending with her legs crossed and the remote in the air! So cute!

Unfortunately, we ended the Christmas week having colds. All of us just didn’t feel too well today so we stayed home from church and just relaxed. For Family Movie Night we watched our new movie that Santa brought us – UP. We had seen it in the theater and loved it and now we have it in our movie collection!

Project 365 | Week 15

Beth is such a character! Her sense of humor mirrors her daddy’s and Joey gets such a kick out of that. She says the funniest things all the time and I need to capture more of these little fun moments.

Joey has never really eaten breakfast – even as a child. As he’s gotten older, it has actually gotten to the point where if he eats too soon after waking up, it makes him nauseous. This morning, Beth was sitting at the kid’s table eating a bowl of cereal, while Joey sat nearby working on his laptop.

“Daddy,” Beth said, “you forgot to eat some breakfast.”
“I didn’t forget, pumpernickel. Daddy just doesn’t eat breakfast.”
“Why not?” she asked.
“Well, I’ve just never been very good at it.”
“It’s EASY, Daddy – you just do like this!” Beth explained, moving the spoon from her bowl to her mouth several times.

I had the opportunity to attend a Relief Society fireside tonight and I am so glad that I went. David Osmond spoke to us about his life and about how the Savior and the gospel has helped him through trials. He has a wonderful voice and sang several songs to us as well that just really filled me with the spirit. While I was gone, Joey and the kids went to the playground and also rode on their trike/scooter! They haven’t been able to play outside much and the weather was finally perfect for it.

Could it possibly be Spring? After the snow and rain we have been getting it’s kind of hard to think that maybe Spring is finally here. These are some beautiful flowers that are in my yard that seemed to just pop up out of nowhere!

We met with Beth’s preschool teacher, Miss Megan today to hear her progress and I am so happy to report that Beth is excelling in her development. It was fun to hear from her teacher the little things she does at school and how well she gets along with her classmates. I thought it was really interesting that her teacher told me that Beth is the only girl that the boys in her class will play with. I think that is because Beth has a brother and they will play trucks and action heroes and stuff, so when she goes to school she is willing to play that with the boys too. But of course she still loves her dolls and dress-up!

While Joey was off playing racquetball and doing his podcast, the kids and I colored Easter Eggs. We did some glittery ones and some just colored ones, we applied stickers to some as well. The kids enjoyed seeing the egg go into the cup white and come out with color! I don’t know what we are going to do with them now. Growing up, we always went somewhere to roll our Easter Eggs. We would make the most awesome trails with tunnels and ramps to send the eggs down. But I don’t know where we would go to do that around here. So they will probably just end up going in the trash – oh well, at least we had fun!

What an amazing day! We got lots of great family time today. We went to lunch at a good burger place called Chadders and then we headed over to the Orem Library. We found some good books and were about to head to the checkout line when the fire alarm went off. Unfortunately we had to put our books down and head out of the building. The police, ambulance, and fire truck came and apparently there was some smoke. But we didn’t see any fire. We were a little disappointed that we didn’t get to get our books, but what can you do? Instead, we headed off to go see a matinee of Monsters & Aliens. It was a fun movie and I love being able to go to movies with my family. On our way home we went back to the library, but of course it was closed, so I guess we will have to get some books another day. We spent a nice night just playing and being together. I haven’t had such a relaxing and impromptu day with my family in a long time.

Happy Easter! It was also Bethie Girl’s 4th Birthday today. We decided to just celebrate Easter and celebrate Beth tomorrow. The Easter bunny found us and gave the kids a Leapster 2 with some games and so after church the kids spent a lot of time together playing games. They also got to hunt Easter Eggs around the house. We also watched a movie on Jesus and tried to teach the kids what Easter is all about. The Easter bunny also brought us the movie, BOLT, so we watched that as a family too. A good day!
