Life 365 | Week 21

Monday, May 17, 2010
may17Beth’s last week of school started today. Afterwards, she played in her little “puzzle corner” for quite awhile so I could keep working on my Good EatZ Kit. She is getting so good at doing puzzles and we just have a puzzle going all the time! She loves it!

Tuesday, May 18, 2010
may18Another day of trying to get my kit done. It just isn’t happening and I’m just not going to have it done on time – but I think its turning out pretty good. No picture today since I just worked all day on the computer, but I do have some of the kit to share. The kids have been playing pretty well together so I am getting some done – just not enough.

Wednesday, May 19, 2010
may19I took a break from designing today to go participate in JJ’s School Spring Run-off – the only school fundraiser they have all year. We didn’t go last year, but I thought we really should do it this year. Beth went to only about 1/2 of her school today and she and I went and joined JJ in the race. We ran a little and walked a little – but we made it to the finish line and we got fun shirts to show it! My Book ScrapZ Chat was tonight and of course I didn’t have the kit done – but everyone is being very patient with me – so that helps!

Thursday, May 20, 2010
may20Beth graduated from the Center Stage Preschool today. Joey and I were able to attend her graduation/program and it was very cute. I know Beth is going to miss her friends there and the teachers and I’m grateful she has had the opportunity to do a little Karate, a little dancing and singing, and learning.

Friday, May 21, 2010
may21We got to babysit Mallory for half the day today and it was so fun. JJ was so happy that she came early so he could have a little time with her before he went to school! Mal went with us to Beth’s last time with her class. We went to a park and had Mommy and Muffins. We got to have some muffins and juice and the kids got to play on the playground. It was a lot of fun and Beth didn’t want to leave. But she started feeling a little sick. By the time night came she was coughing up a storm and had a high fever.

Saturday, May 22, 2010
may22This morning, I got to pick up my first Bountiful Basket. I have found a great co-op for fruit/vegetables/bread and I’m excited to have more healthy foods come into my home. Hopefully I’ll learn how to use it all! It is so fun.

Beth is our little sickie today. She does pretty good during the day, but the night is really hard on her. She coughs so much that she can hardly breathe and her temperature got up to 103 degrees today. Joey and I got free tickets to go to the I Fight Dragons concert. (It’s a fairly new band that Joey has had contact with and he’s even had their permission to use their music on his podcast. So its pretty cool). Anyways, but because Beth is so sick I stayed home with her while Joey went to the concert with his brother. He said it was really great – though he overdid it with his leg (blood clots) and is pretty swollen!

Sunday, May 23, 2010
may23With Joey not feeling well and Beth not feeling well – another very hard night – we stayed home from church. The nights are so awful. I think Beth has finally broke the fever – but the coughing at night is just awful. We are all very tired.

For Family Movie Night we watched A Little Princess and we had muffins and meat pies (chicken) – like they have in the book!

And we finished our night – with watching the finale of Lost. It’s been a very interesting 6 years and I’ll miss the show – I think the finale was good and I’m glad they ended it the way they did.

And here is my weekly layout:

Life 365 | Week 20

Monday, May 10, 2010
may10I still wasn’t feeling very well today, but JJ seemed just fine, so the kids went to school. I didn’t accomplish very much. It ended up being a rough evening. I burned the corn chowder and the kids were fighting and having a bit of a hard time. But at least my rolls turned out good. I don’t think I will be having corn chowder again anytime soon – I ended up being up all night and throwing up in the bathroom.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010
may11Last night was completely exhausting. I haven’t been that sick in a long time. Today wasn’t any better. I didn’t eat a thing all day and still felt so sick. But the kids and Joey were fine. Joey got to go on a field trip with JJ and they went to Fishing Day at Salem Pond. The wonderful community puts it on every year for all the special needs kids. They get to fish and have lunch and they bring home a fish and a fun hat. This is JJ’s second year and I went with him last year. I’m glad Joey got to go with him this year.

Wednesday, May 12, 2010
may12On the mend but still not feeling real great. After school today, Beth and I spent a long time playing with her ponies and princesses. She loves it when I take the time to play with her and I need to remember to enjoy these little moments more.

Thursday, May 13, 2010
may13Beth has discovered that if she sleeps on her braids and when they are dry, she gets curly hair! So I’ve been practicing french braids on her and I’m getting better!

Friday, May 14, 2010
may14It was Beth’s last Show-and-Tell at school today and she wanted to do something special. So we made some flower red velvet cookies and she gave them to her class. Everyone loved it!

Saturday, May 15, 2010
may15A very laid-back Saturday! The kids played all day and Joey watched them while I got to catch up on some rest. Then we played and did puzzles and watched movies and worked on computers. I finally took advantage of a gift certificate that I won at Christmastime for a photo that I took of my kids and got a Fandango gift certificate. So we used some of it tonight and we got Aaron to come over and watch the kids (they were in bed for the night anyways) and Joey and I went to a movie. We saw Letters to Juliet and I really enjoyed it! It was nice to go out with Joey – we haven’t done that lately.

Sunday, May 16, 2010
may16I taught the Sunbeams class today and it was good to finally make it back to church. Since we finished The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia) last week, we decided we needed to watch the movie for Family Movie Night. Our tradition is to watch half the movie – have an intermission and do dinner and then watch the last half of the movie. The kids loved Narnia and I can’t wait to read more of the books with them! Joey was great and volunteered to cook dinner and he made some lion head pancakes with scrambled eggs for the manes. He also tried his hand out at some other shapes too. He spelled out the kids names, he did an I Heart You pancake for me and a colts pancake for himself. But my favorite one that he did was a hidden Mickey pancake. So very cool!

Life 365 | Week 19

Monday, May 3, 2010
may3Today was my chosen day to do the A DAY IN MY LIFE Challenge, so my notepad and my computer were used all day. It was a crazy day with lots of cleaning, store assistant duties, being with the kids and more. A big highlight of the day for my kids was the great weather outside. They spent the whole afternoon (after school) outside doing lots of things including blowing bubbles. Beth loves the Spring flowers that are popping up!

Tuesday, May 4, 2010
may4Yesterday was so exhausting that I needed to have a more laid back day today. I accomplished a few things, but mostly spent the day being lazy and Beth and I completed another puzzle! I love that Beth loves to do puzzles!

Wednesday, May 5, 2010
may5Happy Cinco de Mayo! We had bean, rice, and cheese quesadillas for dinner and it is one of JJ’s favorites, so he was very happy. I decided to cancel my crop for tonight because I just wasn’t ready for it – so we actually spent the day/evening together as a family. We also got word that this afternoon, I became an aunt again. My brother, Toby and his wife Savanna had their second child – a little girl they named Briel Ruth Sorensen. Can’t wait to meet her.

Thursday, May 6, 2010
may6I worked on taking lots of pictures today and getting organized to complete my Photography Hunt Challenge. I didn’t get it quite done, but spent most of the day working on that. More cleaning and working on the computer too. The kids are still enjoying getting to play outside more! Joey was hoping that today would be his last day to have to give himself injections – but after visiting the doctor this morning – our hopes were dashed. He has to do it for 5 more days. We really hope the blood clots clear up soon.

Friday, May 7, 2010
may7It’s been nice to have Joey home all week, but I really feel badly that he has been feeling so awful. The blood clots, gout, and all of his medicines have really got him in pain and feeling down. But his girl can sure cheer him up. She snuggled and played with him in bed for a long while today. Since Joey didn’t have his podcast tonight – we had dessert first and went to Sub-Zero for ice cream and home for dinner tonight.

Saturday, May 8, 2010
may8I slept in awhile today. Joey got Aaron to come over and mow our lawn and then they headed up to Salt Lake City to do his podcast. The kids and I spent the day cleaning, making cookies, and being lazy. I also worked more on my photography hunt challenge – its still not done and I need to finish! The kids were glad to see Joey at the end of the day. I made all of us lay down on the ground to take a fun family photo and I thought it was very cute of the kids as they helped Joey off the floor. šŸ™‚ Joey brought home Mings for him and I for dinner and it was very good.

Sunday, May 9, 2010
may9There’s nothing like the 3am sound of a kid throwing up. Poor JJ got sick all over his bed so we spent time in the shower and cleaning it all up. He slept on the couch with Joey nearby the rest of the night. This morning, I was feeling pretty awful too and Joey is having a rough day, so no church for us today. What a great Mother’s Day huh? We did get our calls into our moms though, so that was good.

For family movie night, we watched An American Tail and since it was all about mice – we had CHEESE Quesadillas for dinner. The kids had fun preparing them!

Life 365 | Week 18

Monday, April 26, 2010
apr26It was finally another nice day and my kids couldn’t wait to play outside after school. They played for a few hours and constantly came in to tell me about things they saw and things they were doing. They were very cute. Beth loves worms and JJ helped her find several worms to put in a container of dirt. They kept coming in to show me their findings. It wasn’t until I went out to call them in for dinner that I found out where they were getting all the worms. JJ was tearing out all the bricks that were in the ground to make a pathway by the shed. After being angry about it for awhile, I finally realized how cute it actually was. JJ was helping his sister find worms. He didn’t realize he was moving stuff that wasn’t supposed to be moved. Silly kids.

Tuesday, April 27, 2010
apr27Tonight was JJ’s Pack Meeting. It was so exciting because he got his first 2 awards in the scouting program. He received his Bobcat badge and his Badminton belt loop. Part of getting the bobcat badge was painting lines on JJ’s cheeks. He wasn’t so sure about that one and really didn’t want me to do it. When he saw one of his scoutmates getting it done – he finally let me paint it on him – but as soon as he got home he washed it off – no paint faces for him!

Wednesday, April 28, 2010
apr28A big fan of Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes), Joey wanted our kids to be attached to their stuffed animals. In trying to encourage this, he would ask Beth if she would let him borrow her stuffed tiger (which he had bought for her at the Hogle Zoo and named “Sasha”) at night. This has quickly got out of control as now Beth has to have someone watching Sasha anytime she’s away from the house, and has asked Joey to take Sasha to work with him several times. Joey’s co-workers have got quite the kick out of seeing Sasha’s head popping out of his backpack and attending his meetings. Sasha is Daddy’s “helper” and Beth’s comfort! I’m not sure what we would do if we lost Sasha – let’s hope that it never happens!

Thursday, April 29, 2010
apr29I have some great visiting teachers. I have been so swamped getting ready for NSD and other things that I haven’t had a chance to have them come over this month. They dropped by some yummy banana bread that the kids and I snacked on all day. They really are very sweet.

Friday, April 30, 2010
apr30Joey had an early appointment with his Rheumatologist. It was in Sandy so he was just going to stay up there and work at Pete’s house, but his leg was all swollen in a way that it shouldn’t be, so they decided he needed an ultrasound. They could only find one hospital that could do it today and that was the Timpanogos Hospital here in Orem, so he came back home. At 3pm, he left to go get his ultrasound, with the plan to leave from the hospital to go do his podcast. The kids came home from school, we had snack and playtime and about 5pm, we left to go pickup my cousin, Heather who was in town for the BYU Womens conference. I hadn’t seen her in a year and was very happy to have some time to visit with her. We haven’t actually been close in proximity ever, but I feel like we have kept a pretty good relationship through the years between emailing, and recently through Facebook/blogs. She’s a wonderful person and I’m so glad I had a chance to catch up with her. We picked Heather up and went to Hogi Yogi’s where we had yummy sandwiches and yogurt. Amidst the visiting and handling my wound-up kids, I missed several calls from Joey. Finally JJ interrupted my visiting with Heather and said, “Mom, you’re phone is ringing.” I missed the call again, only to find out that I had missed several calls. I called Joey back and it was now close to 6:30pm and I expected Joey to be in Salt Lake City. But no, he was still at the hospital where he had just been informed that he had 18 blood clots in his leg and 1 in his lung. It was so shocking to hear and especially over the phone where I couldn’t be with Joey. Joey informed me that he was going to go do the podcast now and then we would talk later. So fortunately, I stayed calm – finished visiting with Heather and then dropped her back off at the BYU dorms before heading home. After the kids went to bed, I did research on blood clots, worked on final preparations for NSD, and had a freak out before Joey finally arrived home and we were able to talk. A huge day.

Saturday, May 1, 2010
may1Another crazy day. Joey and I slept in a little bit and then he headed off to the pharmacy to get his medications. Unfortunately, he had a hard time finding a pharmacy with the right stuff – and so when my NSD crop started – he still wasn’t home. The crop went well – even though the kids had a rough time, so I was trying to do my crop and handle the kids at the same time. We made it through and finally Joey got home. Joey’s doing pretty well, but the worst thing is having to give himself injections in the stomach for 5 days. The needle doesn’t really bother him – but the medicine is really hurting him. I just pray that this medicine will help and that we can get the blood clots to go away.

Sunday, May 2, 2010
may2We stayed home from church today. But our home teachers came over and was able to give Joey a blessing and I pray that it will help him through the next several days.

For our Family Movie Night, we watched The Sound of Music and made mexican haystacks for our “hills are alive.” The kids enjoyed it, even though it was quite the stretch to make the movie and dinner match this week!

And here is my weekly layout:

Life 365 | Week 17

Monday, April 19, 2010
apr19Late last night I discovered that Persnickety Prints was just up the street and I had an awesome email conversation with the owner. So I prepared several of my layouts to test drive their service and sent it over early this morning. Today’s photo was actually taken on Wednesday, when I picked the layouts up. They are so awesome! Its so exciting to see my work actually printed! I’ve made it a new goal to get a few more pages done each week. JJ and Beth have been getting after me to get more pages done because they love to look through the albums and see pictures of themselves!

Tuesday, April 20, 2010
apr20I spent all morning and early afternoon in Riverton with JJ. We went to see a Rheumatologist about some weird bumps on JJ’s big toes. It turns out that everything is okay – they are actually callouses that JJ has developed by curling his toes when he is walking with his shoes on. We are going to have to see what to do about that – but everything is okay. When we finally got back to Orem, I dropped JJ off for the last couple hours of school and picked up Beth from Cody and Becki’s. Beth cried and sulked because she didn’t want to leave – she was having way too much fun with Uncle Cody and Aunt Becki. But I finally got her cheered up by letting her have a tea party on the kitchen table with some of her animal friends!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010
apr21Beth was so excited because today was Daddy & Doughnuts Day. We curled Beth’s hair all pretty for her date with Dad. Joey spent the last half hour of school with Beth, visiting and eating doughnuts. Beth made her daddy a colored tie to wear too. They were so happy to spend some time together!

Thursday, April 22, 2010
apr22Poor Bethie had to get shots today. We went in for her 5-year-old/getting ready for Kindergarten appointment. Beth was so sad and sore the rest of the day. She wouldn’t take a nap but she obviously wasn’t feeling well because she wouldn’t even move off of the couch and that is just not like my Bethie girl. For a few hours her legs stiffened up so bad that I had to carry her around, even to use the bathroom. But finally when her daddy came home – she was feeling pretty good.

Friday, April 23, 2010
apr23Spring weather is so much fun! We even got out the popsicles today! The kids loved it and they were so cute sitting in the same chair and watching a movie together. Have I said how much I love it when they get along? We also made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies today!

Saturday, April 24, 2010
apr24We had a Primary activity this morning at the church, so JJ, Beth and I went and learned about some of the prophets in the Bible, while Daddy went and helped Clark with his computer. After we returned home, we packed up a picnic and headed to Liberty Park in Salt Lake City for lunch and fun with the Mortensens! It was fun to relax and enjoy the spring weather – even though their were tons of people at the park today. We played some frisbee and football, played on the playground, and the kids enjoyed playing with Curtis and Anne’s kids and their new puppy. The kids played so hard that when we got home – we all took a long nap!

Sunday, April 25, 2010
apr25I had procrastinated getting ready for my new calling – so I stayed up very late (like 4 in the morning) and finished up some fun things for the kids to hold while we had singing time. Thank goodness Joey helped me or I don’t think we would have gotten any sleep. But I think it was worth it. The Sunbeam singing time went great and I’m a lot less nervous about it now!

For our Family Movie Night tonight we watched Batteries not Included and made mini pizzas (our flying saucers) for dinner! The kids loved being able to put the toppings on themselves! Another movie night success!

And here is my weekly layout:
