Life 365 | Week 14

Monday, March 29, 2010
mar29The end of March/beginning of April totally snuck up fast on me. I suddenly realized how much I needed to get done this week! To begin with – we needed to get Beth’s invitations done – and so we got the order sent in! (The above photo is what we received on Friday of this week)! I think they turned out very cute!

mar30I just love it when the kids are happy and playful. They were in FLYING mode today and it was fun to see them have a good time together. I worked a lot today on a new kit and getting my Digitals store assistant jobs handled.

mar31Joey worked from home today and was there to greet our cute Bethie Bunny when she got home from school. So cute! Being that Joey was home and I didn’t have a crop tonight – we actually went out to dinner at Olive Garden. It was delicious and so fun to be out together as a family on a weekday! We also stopped by our favorite ice cream shop (Farr’s Fresh) for dessert on the way home.

apr1This year, through one of my favorite food blogs (ourbestbites.com), I discovered the art of silk-dying eggs. As soon as I saw it – I just knew I had to try it. So a couple of weeks ago, Beth and I went to the thrift store and bought some silk ties. Today we finally got the project done and for a first time try – I was so excited on how the eggs turned out! Much more fun than the dye kits that I buy from the store every year! The kids were excited to see the designs too! We will definitely be doing this every year!

apr2The past few weeks, I’ve been trying to make a treat (cookies/brownies/desserts) for our family every Friday. Another of my food blogs (yourhomebasedmom.com) shared a recipe for Bunny Cookie Bark that I decided the kids would enjoy! We put our own twist on it by using both Golden and regular oreos in the same batch. I also don’t like candy corns, so we used M&Ms – the kids really loved it and the colors were awesome!

Joey had a break from his podcast today and so it was nice to have him home with us.

apr3I really love seeing the interaction between my kids and their daddy! Today daddy read them a chapter of the book we have been reading and I just had to capture a little bit. Today was the start of General Conference and it was nice to stay in our PJs all day and listen to the prophet and leaders of the church, intermingled with playing and working. Joey was able to go to the priesthood session at the Stake Center.

apr4Happy Easter! We woke up to a few inches of snow today. I just had to take a photo of the eggs in the snow! We were lazy again today and stayed in our pjs. We listened to the remainder of conference and it was nice to have that spirit in our home. The kids got some doodle pads, crayons, and markers from the Easter Bunny, so they spent a lot of time drawing pictures today as well.

And here is my weekly layout:
week14I used my Hippity Hoppity & Digital 365 to create this layout!

Project 365 | Week 36

Beth hung out with me all day. It was her “special activity.” She got all her smiley faces last week, so she chose to be with mom and we went school shopping for her, out to lunch, and then played at home! I think she had a wonderful day!

I am so happy to be able to capture these fun moments when my kids get along. JJ was reading (to Beth) his little book he had made at school!

I worked hard all week to finish up my pirate kit. It gets released next week, but it was so good to get it done. I hope my customers like it – I always get so nervous after spending so much time on a kit – hoping that it goes over well. We’ll see. Here is your sneak peek to the kit!

Another cute moment with the kids. I love it when JJ “protects” his sister. They were watching a cartoon together. Just cute!

We made chocolate chip cookies today. The kids couldn’t wait for them to cool down so they could have one! I am going to try and make cookies every Friday – a fun tradition to start!

We got some beads on Monday and the kids have been so anxious to get their hands on them. We made fun bracelets today that the kids, especially Beth, really enjoyed. Beth has worn the bracelet all week! JJ calls his bracelet, “his watch,” much more masculine right?

Beth also got all her smiley faces again – so Beth and I went out for ice cream at the mall and bought some new princess figurines at the Disney Store! Beth insisted that we buy some surprises for Dad and JJ too, so Dad got some ties and JJ got some Little Einstein Figurines.

After church we were just really tired, so we got in our pjs and just hung around the house for the rest of the day. Sometimes that is the best vacation there is – being together and lounging around the house!

Project 365 | Week 1

I have decided to start my Project 365 even though it isn’t the 1st yet. I decided that since it is on a weekly basis – that I’d like to start on a Monday, so here is the first 2 days! When I get my DIGITAL 365 Kit finished, I will start using it to put this stuff together, but I’d also like to share each days photo/journaling here on my blog and then finish the week with sharing my week’s 2-page layout with you! Anyways….

We are spending this week trying to organize ourselves. Christmas is over and it was a good one, but it’s time to think about cleaning up the house, organizing, and getting ready for the new year. So many thoughts and plans and trying to get it all put together is a bit overwhelming. Just have to keep telling myself – one step at a time, line upon line, and eventually everything can be the way that I want it to be right now.

Tonight, as I was putting the kids to bed, JJ said he was scared of the dark. So we talked a little while and I told him that anytime he is scared, hurt, or felt alone that he could pray to Heavenly Father and that HE would hear him and help him. JJ seemed to understand and I felt good that I was able to actually get through and teach him something. I then went to Beth’s bed and was tucking her in. She had heard my conversation with JJ and we had this sweet little conversation.

“Mom, do you know what I dreamed last night?”
“What?”
“I dreamed that me and mommy went to see Heavenly Father.”
“Really? Was it a good dream?”
“Yep.”

That’s all that was said, but somehow I went away feeling really good that my little girl would dream about her Heavenly Father and that it was a good place where he is. When I was telling Joey about this conversation he said, “Wow. She told me this morning that she dreamed about the sunshine.” It fits don’t you think?

(Note: Today’s Pictures were taken by JJ! He wanted to use the camera so I let him for the first time!)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We took this picture a few hours before the new year. This is our 10th New Year that we have celebrated together. We are not party people. We prefer a quiet evening at home. This year we celebrated by finishing our yearly tradition of watching The Lord of the Rings.

Today was spent just hanging around the house in our PJs. I worked all day on a kit that just isn’t quite done yet – I just can’t seem to finish it no matter how much I want to right now. But I’ll keep trying. So the kids watched movies all day and played while Joey and I spent the day on our computers. At one point, I looked over and saw JJ just intent on what his Dad was working on. They are so much like each other in so many ways and I can see JJ just wanting to be just like his dad!

Thank you so much to all of you who commented on my frustration with this kit getting done. I really appreciate your support! Unfortunately, I think I am just trying to force this – and creativity comes when it comes. Actually at this point, I’m a little scared. Because I think I hyped it up so much and I keep thinking that maybe you all will be very disappointed in it. I’m not sure it will have enough in it – or be what you need/want it to be! I hate it when I do this to myself – but that’s about where I am right now with it. I have about 9 ScatterZ and a few bears to do and then I’m going to package it all up and call it good. I REALLY hope you won’t be disappointed. It is a little different from my usual style – a lot of doodly/swirly kinds of designs in it. It is completely inspired by Becky Higgins’ Project 365. Anyways, I will keep hoping I get it done within the next day or so and hopefully I won’t disappoint you. All I can say is that there will be lots of additions to it – as bonuses to the monthly challenge and so if you have input on what you need/want – I guess you can always suggest at the chat and I can create some of that for bonuses/freebies. On another note – I am going to continue my HIGH/LOW Series, even though I’ll be posting my 1 photo everyday. I will use Friday’s to still say my High/Low for the Week and offer a freebie. Maybe my High/Low will be repeating things from the week and maybe they won’t so I think it will still be good. Love you all! Thanks for reading!

After finally finishing the kit I was working on, I rewarded myself by going to lunch and a matinee with the Scrap Girls. I feel so blessed to be able to hang out with these wonderful
ladies who I have so much in common with. It’s really great to just get out once in a while and visit!

After I got home it was time for the Utes Football Game! Utah vs. Alabama in the Sugar Bowl! It was an amazing game and we won! The Utes were the only college football team in the nation to go undefeated this year, so it was really wonderful!

Our Indianapolis Colts lost today in overtime in the playoffs. A very sad day for us! Watching football is a great tradition in our family. It takes up a lot of our energy and it really hurts when our team loses. Oh well, there’s always next year…

JJ also woke up today with a missing tooth! We don’t know where it is and hopefully he didn’t swallow it. But this is his third tooth in the past month to come out, so he’s getting a little toothless, but very excited about it!

balance
I’ve been reading a lot of blogs that are talking about choosing “a word” for the year. A word that will inspire you to change your life for the better this coming year. Something to strive for and to become. I’ve been thinking about it and I just couldn’t come up with a word until I read of someone else’s word that totally made sense to me. BALANCE. I have been trying to achieve this for many years, but I still have a really rough time with it. Balance between my design work and my family. Balance between the housework, organization, finances, sleep, and all the things that come up. BALANCE. That’s what I want in my life. I want to be able to be a successful wife, mother, and designer and I want there to be a good balance between them all. I’ve tried before and just don’t feel like I succeed. But maybe if I truly make it my word – my goal for the year and actually scrap about it – maybe, it will be more on my thoughts as I go about everyday life and so I can truly become a better balanced person.

And here is my weekly layout:
