Life 365 | Week 23

Monday, May 31, 2010
may31Joey’s mom left very early this morning and we didn’t even get to say goodbye – but we were glad she made it safely to Wyoming. We spent this Memorial Day being very lazy. Joey and I played/worked on our computers and the kids played and watched movies. Joey did do some work outside and got our swamp cooler working and some pipe connections fixed.

Tuesday, June 1, 2010
jun1We went and picked up some Soccer stuff for Beth today. We got a package deal for signing up for the Orem Soccer and got Beth some cleats, shin guards, soccer ball, and sackpack. Beth was so excited!

Wednesday, June 2, 2010
jun2Beth’s first day of Soccer Camp was today. JJ stayed home with Joey since he didn’t have to go in early and Beth and I headed over to the field. Beth was so excited until we got to the field and suddenly she got so nervous and shy. Beth is normally so outgoing that I was so surprised that she had that reaction to all the kids and coaches. After some tears and sadness and hugs – I finally got her to go back on the field. She wanted to go back home – but I told her to stick it out and that it wouldn’t be very long. She ended up slowly kicking the ball at the other end of the field by herself. I wasn’t sure what to do – but then I saw one of the coaches go up to her and talk to her and she became the Bethie I know again and started playing and learning. It was an interesting experience for her, but hopefully now that she knows more of what to expect that next time will be better!

jun3There is just nothing like a tea party with your bears and your daddy! I love seeing Joey play with the kids!

Friday, June 4, 2010
jun4It was so nice today. The kids played all day outside and they loved it. I love hearing them play outside my bedroom window as I do some design work. I love that they use their imaginations! At one point, Beth ran into the house and told me that I “just had to see something so beautiful.” I grabbed my camera and took some pictures of the beautiful roses that have bloomed in our yard! Beth was so excited to have a picture of her with the roses!

jun5Joey took JJ to his Tball game today. I wasn’t feeling so well, so I slept in for a little while. JJ still gets very distracted in the outfield, but hopefully we can work with him and get him to focus better. Joey said that he hit better today, so that’s good. In the afternoon, I took Beth to her friend Baylee’s Birthday Party at Little Gym. She had so much fun and when I came to pick her up, she cried because she didn’t want to leave. It was fun to find that Jodi Price worked there now – her family was in our ward when we lived in Salt Lake City so it was a fun surprise to see her again! Then after the party, Beth and I got haircuts! I got enough hair cut off to donate to Locks of Love so it is quite a change! Beth loves her haircut and I do too – it will be great to not have to deal with so much hair – especially over the summer!

jun6After church, we decided to do our Family Movie Night early, since we were going to have visitors later. We watched The Wizard of Oz and it was the first time for my kids. They really enjoyed it. Later for dinner, we had Chicken Noodle Casserole for dinner – which is yellow and cheesy and it was our “yellow brick road.” For dessert, we made a large rainbow cookie!

Lane and one of his friends came and stayed with us tonight. They are headed to Boys State tomorrow so it was fun to have them come for dinner and stay with us. The kids were so excited to have Lane here!

And here is my weekly layout:
week23I used my Sweet Summer Sun (Digitals July 2010 Challenge Kit) & Digital 365 to create this layout!

Project 365 | Week 24

Monday, June 8, 2009
jun8After more working on the truck – we gathered a load of cows. We branded them and got a load sent off to Sink Valley. JJ got to go on the truck with Uncle Clint and Grandpa and Beth stayed with me so we could go gather more cows. She was so excited to finally be riding a horse! I can’t believe that at her age, I was riding horses by myself. I feel kind of sad, that my kids don’t get to do that – except for once or twice a year, but I guess that’s just how it goes. The kids enjoyed playing in the dirt, riding horses, and riding Austin’s mini-bike today!

Tuesday, June 9, 2009
jun9I enjoyed taking pictures of the kids today, in between my branding duties. My brother, Clint had branded my name into the fence in 2005 (the year Beth was born) and today he added JJ and Beth’s names to the fence. The kids got a real kick out of it, especially JJ. He was so proud! Once again, JJ got to go on the truck to Sink Valley and Beth stayed with me.

We had an extra fun night – Bruce Harris came out with his trailer and generator (his son, Blair and grandson, Stetson was already out here with us). He cooked us some amazing BBQ Chicken and Rice Pudding. And then while the kids were doing their thing – smores, games, talking – we played a game of Trivia Pursuit! I did awful – but I had a great time and I think I even learned some stuff. Beth was exhausted and went right to sleep and since JJ was on the truck – I could just enjoy being with my mom, my sister, and Blair and Bruce! We had a good time.

jun10For as long as I can remember, my part of branding has been to vaccinate and to track the number of cows. The vaccination guns and the tracking systems have changed through the years (for the better), but I have always had this job. Occasionally, I have tied some calves, but I pretty much stay behind the scenes and that is really how I live my life. I like it that way. Not out in the spotlight – not the one really doing the heavy work – but the one giving support and keeping everything running smoothly.

Today….another load of cows off to Sink Valley (with JJ going on the truck again), another horse ride with Beth (she fell asleep on the horse for awhile), more visits with Kori, and more photo taking.

jun11“The last cup of hot chocolate and the last bale of Hay.” That’s what my Dad said this morning as we were branding the calves. I thought it sounded like the perfect title to a scrapbook page! Today is the last day at Bull Rush for this year. We packed and cleaned up camp, branded the last 4 calves (the biggest ones this year), and took lots of photos. Kori and some of Colby’s friend’s that came headed home. Colby and Clint took off hiking for awhile why Grandpa once again tinkered with his truck. When it was finally time to go – we loaded the cows and the horses and then we headed. As I took photos of the Peterbilt leaving camp (from the back of the white truck) – I felt kind of sad it was over. It seemed to go really fast this year. I didn’t really ride horses as much and it just wasn’t quite the same this year for some reason. But I’m still glad that my kids get to do this and I can only hope that this family tradition and way of life continues!

Friday, June 12, 2009
jun12It was a slow, lazy day. The kids played outside all day and I played on my computer. Staying in my Grandpa and Grandma’s House just brings back so many memories of my grandparents. I really miss them. Looking out the front door, I see my Grandma’s beautiful peace roses. I couldn’t help but take several photos of them and this one is my favorite!

jun13We were so excited to see Joey this morning! It was a long week without him! We were able to go up to Sink Valley and help my Dad and it was fun for Joey and I to ride horses together. The kids love it at the ranch. So much space to just run and play – they especially loved Daddy pushing them in the tire swing!

Sunday, June 14, 2009
jun14We had a great week, but it was so nice to drive in and see the #13 on our trailer. HOME. We just relaxed today and I took a long nap. The kids were so excited to see their room and their toys!

We are looking forward to a week from today – we are going to go play at the DAY OUT WITH THOMAS on Memorial Day. We will participate in the fun activities beforehand and then get to ride on the train with Thomas the Engine pulling. I told the kids about it today and they were so excited, so we got out our Thomas the Train Set for awhile. JJ especially LOVED IT!

The weather has been so hot lately – and we still haven’t gotten our swamp cooler running yet. And all this summery weather has gotten me in the mood for FRUIT. So I bought a lot of it over the weekend and we have been having fruit salad for snacks. I love that my kids are starting to eat more fruit too! Much healthier snack than we have been doing. And every time I am cutting up the fruit, I just have to sing the Wiggles song, “Fruit Salad, yummy yummy….”

The kids have been taking showers lately – just because it is faster. But they really have been missing bathtime. So tonight, I let them each play in the tub for awhile. They especially loved the bubbles I put in!

Thursday is usually when I START the laundry. It’s one of those mundane things and so I procrastinate it and of course it isn’t put away until at least Saturday. Beth hopped in the Dryer today when I was getting clothes out. I swear she is getting cuter every day!

I have really slacked off in making cookies. When I just had JJ, I used to make cookies every week or so. Not sure why I totally stopped doing that. I love chocolate chip cookies, they are my favorite. I just haven’t found the time to make them. So today, I decided that we really needed cookies. Pete is coming down here for racquetball and their podcast this week, and so I am making Chicken Enchiladas for dinner and I thought Cookies would be a great dessert tonight. Plus they are just coming out of the oven now and that means JJ can have a warm cookie right after he gets home off the bus! What is better than a warm cookie for snack after school! And it’s Friday – and I need chocolate! 🙂

The kids had a picnic on our lawn today. They were too cute in their interactions with each other as they played and ate their lunch. JJ was using funny voices for his dinosaur stuffed animal and making his sister laugh.

I want to always remember the cute things that the kids say and I’m trying hard to remember to write these things down. We were out on a drive and it was raining and JJ said in a cute sing-songy voice: “We’re going on a special trip. Do you want to come with us, Rain? Just drop down on the van and we’ll take you.”

The roses in our yard are blooming. I just love roses. They always remind me of my Grandma Sorensen and the beautiful Peace Roses she had in her yard. I miss her. I can’t believe she has been gone for 13 1/2 years now. She lived right next door and I saw her almost everyday of my life up until she died. I hope she is watching out for her family as she always did. Love you grandma.
