Life 365 | Week 25

Another week of soccer camp! JJ and I took Beth to soccer this morning and then we walked around the 1 1/4 mile track they have there. It was good to get some exercise and I really need to remember to put that it in my schedule!

JJ’s first day of summer school was today. I feel so grateful that he had the opportunity to do this. I really think it helps him and its nice to have things to do in the summer! After his school we headed to the high school for the FREE LUNCH FOR KIDS that they have going every weekday this summer! Another thing to be grateful for!

I am feeling so glad that this summer has had so many rainy days so far. I love the chill in the air and the beauty of overcast clouds. The kids and I spent a while on the porch today just taking it all in!

jun17
I love watching my kids use their imaginations and just having fun! The kids really had a good time playing outside today.

Joey and I were able to go to our niece’s wedding in the Salt Lake City temple today. It was a beautiful ceremony and we really felt the spirit there. Cody and Becki took the kids for the morning/afternoon today and they had tons of time playing at the park with Cody, Becki, and Mallory. We picked them up and went to the luncheon/reception before heading home for the night. I had chicken in the crockpot that cooked all day and I came home and made 8 chicken enchilada meals for my dinner exchange tomorrow.

Today is Joey and I’s wedding anniversary. I feel so happy to have been married to my best friend for 11 years. We didn’t have any special plans today because we are a little low on funds right now. It actually turned out to be not a very good day. I slept through my alarm so JJ missed his T-ball game. I spent 2 hours in horrible traffic driving to Salt Lake City for my dinner exchange and the van overheated so I barely made it there. And then Joey went to do his podcast. So I was just ready for the day to end. When Joey got home from his podcast we did watch a movie and talked for awhile, so it ended up not being too bad. At least I have a week’s worth of dinners in the freezer for nights that I won’t have to cook! Yay!

We didn’t have family movie night because JJ had to go to bed early. We have to wake up early to get him to the church for his Scout Day Camp tomorrow. I expected him to complain a lot more than he did when he had to go to bed and the sun was still up! I walked in 1o minutes after sending him to bed and this is what I found – so hopefully he’ll get lots of sleep and be happy for tomorrow!

Life 365 | Week 24

Monday, June 7, 2010
jun7JJ and I left at 6:30am this morning to take Lane and Lance to Ogden for Boys State. It took us about an hour and a half and after we dropped them off we headed right back home. We arrived home at about 9:30am. Joey took Beth to soccer camp this morning while we were gone and she did much better than last time. The rest of the day was kind of a blur. I tried to get a little cleaning and laundry done, but didn’t accomplish a whole lot. We all took a nap in the late afternoon for awhile. And then I took the kids to the park where they played for awhile, we had a small family home evening lesson and laid on the grass and looked at the clouds. It was overcast and such a lovely day. I really enjoyed the time with the kids.

Tuesday, June 8, 2010
jun8The kids played a lot this morning while I tried to get some housework and designing done. At about 6:30pm we decided to go to the park and the kids decided that they wanted to walk there. There are lots of parks around, but they wanted to go to the park we went to yesterday, so we could feed the ducks. I knew it would be a long way, but we all needed some exercise, so we decided to do it. We made pretty good time getting there and did it in about an hour and a half. We only spent about a 1/2 hour there feeding the ducks and playing on the playground and I realized that it was going to be really late when we got home. This was a very impromptu outing and if I would have realized how far it was and how long it took us – I wouldn’t have done it so late! We started for home at 8:30 and we didn’t get home until 10:30 at night. The kids were so tired and I felt so bad. But I think they had a good time. I tried to make it an adventure and we talked a lot during the walk home. I had to keep encouraging Beth – she was really having a hard time towards the end. I really wore them out. We quickly pulled something together for dinner and then they went to bed. They were asleep before their heads hit their pillows. I stayed up to get my kit in the store and finally crashed about 5:00am.

Wednesday, June 9, 2010
jun9It was one of those days where I just couldn’t do anything right. I accidentally turned the alarm off and so I missed taking Beth to Soccer Camp and JJ to scouts. We were all so exhausted from yesterday that we just didn’t make it. I felt so bad all day. JJ’s scout leader came to our house later and gave JJ the supplies to make his Puddle Jumpers, so JJ played with them all day and it was fun to see him so excited about it! We were lazy all day and just played.

Thursday, June 10, 2010
jun10This week we have gone to the park a lot and the kids have really loved it. We went to a different park today and the kids enjoyed about an hour of playtime before we headed off to the new Winco for some grocery shopping!

Friday, June 11, 2010
jun11Joey and I got to go on a date tonight and Aaron came over to babysit the kids. We joined Curtis and Anne and we had dinner at Olive Garden and went to see the new Karate Kid movie! It was really good and I enjoyed being able to have some time away!

Saturday, June 12, 2010
jun12I picked up another beautiful basket of fruits, vegetables, and tortillas from Bountiful Baskets this morning. It was really rainy weather, so JJ’s T-ball game was canceled so we just hung out all day at home.

Sunday, June 13, 2010
jun13Today for family movie night – we watched “The Three Amigos” and had chicken burritos for dinner.

Life 365 | Week 22

Monday, May 24, 2010
may24This is what our morning-afternoon looked like! I couldn’t believe it when I looked out the door. The end of May and we are still getting snow storms. JJ went off to school – Joey went off to work – and Bethie (who is still not feeling good) and I stayed home.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010
may25JJ’s Scout Pack Meeting was tonight. They talked about collections and they got to bring their collections with them. JJ is getting quite the collection of Cars Collectibles. His scout leader gave him a new “Doc” (it has eyes that move) and I gave him a new “Lightning McQueen” (that changes color in warm water) for tonight. He was so excited!

Wednesday, May 26, 2010
may26JJ’s school does a Dance Festival every year and this JJ’s second year to participate. This year he did a “Hat Dance” with his Life Skills class and he even go to join in the regular 2nd graders dance too! He was so excited and it was so fun to see him dance and enjoy himself!

Thursday, May 27, 2010
may27Beth has an ear infection now and so she’s on antibiotics and JJ’s starting to get that really bad cough. My poor babies – I hate it when they are sick. JJ went to school anyways, since it was his last full day and he really didn’t want to miss Field/Water day. They got to do all kinds of water activities and lots of fun. I was worried about him all day – but he came home happy and only really started coughing at night.

Friday, May 28, 2010
may28JJ’s very last day of school was today. He only had a 1/2 day and then he came home! To celebrate, JJ and Joey went to the Utah Blaze Football game tonight. They had a good time even though JJ was really not feeling too well and the Blaze lost. Beth and I had a girls night and we watched movies and had dinner from the couch! Beth conked out early so I got some design time in before the boys came home.

Saturday, May 29, 2010
may29We all went to JJ’s first T-ball game today. I was so excited to find an adaptive sports team that JJ could join. He did okay – when he is in the outfield he kind of just spaces out and he is a bit scared of the ball, but not too bad for his first time. I think he had fun – so that is all that matters.

Sunday, May 30, 2010
may30The kids are still recuperating, so we didn’t make it to church again. I hope we can get rid of this darn sickness soon!

It was such a nice evening tonight. I made a nice dinner and Joey’s mom came up to stay the night – she’s on her way to Wyoming to take care of Grandma Smith. Aaron came over for dinner and visiting too. And I was able to get a hold of Chelsea and her husband, Will, and Alicia and her fiance, Brian and they came over to visit. Chelsea and Will left before we got a picture – but it was so nice to visit and catch up. Joey’s side of the family don’t get together too often, so it was just really great.

For Family Movie Night (Joey’s mom joined us) – we watched The Princess Bride. That movie is always such a delight. We had meatloaf for dinner so it was our R.O.U.S’s loaf.

Life 365 | Week 18

Monday, April 26, 2010
apr26It was finally another nice day and my kids couldn’t wait to play outside after school. They played for a few hours and constantly came in to tell me about things they saw and things they were doing. They were very cute. Beth loves worms and JJ helped her find several worms to put in a container of dirt. They kept coming in to show me their findings. It wasn’t until I went out to call them in for dinner that I found out where they were getting all the worms. JJ was tearing out all the bricks that were in the ground to make a pathway by the shed. After being angry about it for awhile, I finally realized how cute it actually was. JJ was helping his sister find worms. He didn’t realize he was moving stuff that wasn’t supposed to be moved. Silly kids.

Tuesday, April 27, 2010
apr27Tonight was JJ’s Pack Meeting. It was so exciting because he got his first 2 awards in the scouting program. He received his Bobcat badge and his Badminton belt loop. Part of getting the bobcat badge was painting lines on JJ’s cheeks. He wasn’t so sure about that one and really didn’t want me to do it. When he saw one of his scoutmates getting it done – he finally let me paint it on him – but as soon as he got home he washed it off – no paint faces for him!

Wednesday, April 28, 2010
apr28A big fan of Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes), Joey wanted our kids to be attached to their stuffed animals. In trying to encourage this, he would ask Beth if she would let him borrow her stuffed tiger (which he had bought for her at the Hogle Zoo and named “Sasha”) at night. This has quickly got out of control as now Beth has to have someone watching Sasha anytime she’s away from the house, and has asked Joey to take Sasha to work with him several times. Joey’s co-workers have got quite the kick out of seeing Sasha’s head popping out of his backpack and attending his meetings. Sasha is Daddy’s “helper” and Beth’s comfort! I’m not sure what we would do if we lost Sasha – let’s hope that it never happens!

Thursday, April 29, 2010
apr29I have some great visiting teachers. I have been so swamped getting ready for NSD and other things that I haven’t had a chance to have them come over this month. They dropped by some yummy banana bread that the kids and I snacked on all day. They really are very sweet.

Friday, April 30, 2010
apr30Joey had an early appointment with his Rheumatologist. It was in Sandy so he was just going to stay up there and work at Pete’s house, but his leg was all swollen in a way that it shouldn’t be, so they decided he needed an ultrasound. They could only find one hospital that could do it today and that was the Timpanogos Hospital here in Orem, so he came back home. At 3pm, he left to go get his ultrasound, with the plan to leave from the hospital to go do his podcast. The kids came home from school, we had snack and playtime and about 5pm, we left to go pickup my cousin, Heather who was in town for the BYU Womens conference. I hadn’t seen her in a year and was very happy to have some time to visit with her. We haven’t actually been close in proximity ever, but I feel like we have kept a pretty good relationship through the years between emailing, and recently through Facebook/blogs. She’s a wonderful person and I’m so glad I had a chance to catch up with her. We picked Heather up and went to Hogi Yogi’s where we had yummy sandwiches and yogurt. Amidst the visiting and handling my wound-up kids, I missed several calls from Joey. Finally JJ interrupted my visiting with Heather and said, “Mom, you’re phone is ringing.” I missed the call again, only to find out that I had missed several calls. I called Joey back and it was now close to 6:30pm and I expected Joey to be in Salt Lake City. But no, he was still at the hospital where he had just been informed that he had 18 blood clots in his leg and 1 in his lung. It was so shocking to hear and especially over the phone where I couldn’t be with Joey. Joey informed me that he was going to go do the podcast now and then we would talk later. So fortunately, I stayed calm – finished visiting with Heather and then dropped her back off at the BYU dorms before heading home. After the kids went to bed, I did research on blood clots, worked on final preparations for NSD, and had a freak out before Joey finally arrived home and we were able to talk. A huge day.

Saturday, May 1, 2010
may1Another crazy day. Joey and I slept in a little bit and then he headed off to the pharmacy to get his medications. Unfortunately, he had a hard time finding a pharmacy with the right stuff – and so when my NSD crop started – he still wasn’t home. The crop went well – even though the kids had a rough time, so I was trying to do my crop and handle the kids at the same time. We made it through and finally Joey got home. Joey’s doing pretty well, but the worst thing is having to give himself injections in the stomach for 5 days. The needle doesn’t really bother him – but the medicine is really hurting him. I just pray that this medicine will help and that we can get the blood clots to go away.

Sunday, May 2, 2010
may2We stayed home from church today. But our home teachers came over and was able to give Joey a blessing and I pray that it will help him through the next several days.

For our Family Movie Night, we watched The Sound of Music and made mexican haystacks for our “hills are alive.” The kids enjoyed it, even though it was quite the stretch to make the movie and dinner match this week!

Life 365 | Week 13

Monday, March 22, 2010
mar22Could it possibly be Spring? I think its getting there. It was warm enough today for Beth to have her lunch outside – picnic style! She loved it! She played with her dolls and just had a nice afternoon. JJ joined her outside when he got home from school and they just loved not being cooped up in the house.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010
mar23A busy day. Beth and I went shopping and we stocked up on all of our groceries and things we needed. Then we came home, put most of it away, and we were off to JJ’s first pinewood derby! JJ was so excited! Every scout’s car got to race 6 times – once on each of the tracks and then they totaled the times within each den’s. We were so excited to find out that JJ’s car won the wolf den! He is so proud of his trophy! The most wonderful thing about it is that I know that JJ was so happy to just be able to race his car – winning was secondary to just having fun.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010
mar24Having an old vehicle can be the pits sometimes. My dad has put a lot of hours into fixing it for us and when I went to get it licensed, I found out it didn’t pass Safety Inspection because I needed a side marker lense. After some research – I found out that certain part was discontinued – so I was calling Junk Yards and stuff with no luck. I finally found the part online – ordered it – and Lewis Cox put it on for me today. So I finally went back to Jiffy Lube and got my sticker for another year. Yay!

Thursday, March 25, 2010
mar25We spent a lot of time this week on the road doing shopping and errands. I’ve never been more grateful to be a 2-vehicle family again. My van might be very old and everything – but I’m so grateful to have it. It’s nice to just be able to go out and do what I need to do without having to schedule time to take Joey to work and get the car. Beth was my little helper all week, taking care of the things that I have been putting off!

Friday, March 26, 2010
mar26You know its Spring when you get to have Fruit Salad for lunch. Beth and I loved it!

Saturday, March 27, 2010
mar27JJ had a coupon to Trafalga Family Fun Center as part of his prize for Student of the Week – months ago. It was expiring and so we finally took our family there. Its right across the street from our trailer park and we still have never gone there until today. Anyways, so the kids got to play arcade games, we went miniature golfing, and we got to have pizza, drinks, and dippin’ dots. The kids loved it.

Sunday, March 28, 2010
mar28Beth had a rough night. I guess it was a little too chilly yesterday and I shouldn’t have let the kids be outside for so long. She coughed all night and she’s losing her voice and just having a hard time breathing. So we spent the day in front of this handy little vaporizer! JJ’s a bit stuffy as well, but Beth got the worst of it this time. Ugh, I want the sickness to all go away!

Life 365 | Week 11

Monday, March 8, 2010
mar8My mission this week was to get the house in order. I’ve been just picking up lately and not really cleaning. It all started with the kid’s bedroom today. I had to snap a photo because it’s usually only this clean for 5 minutes. Everything is in its place for the moment.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010
mar9More cleaning and designing today. In School this week, Beth’s learning about rainbows and yesterday she brought home this dandy. We hung it up on the fridge today and Beth just beamed. I love it when she’s so happy.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010
mar10We’re trying to accomplish JJ’s reading chart this month – we only got the chart on Monday – so he can get a free pass to the Seven Peaks Water Park. We’re on a roll so far! We’ve been reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It’s the first longer book that we have ever read to the kids so hopefully they are comprehending it.

Thursday, March 11, 2010
mar11More cleaning and designing again. Beth and I hung at home all day and had raman for lunch.

Friday, March 12, 2010
mar12The kids coughed all night long and so they stayed home from school today. We finished getting the house clean and I made meatballs, spaghetti, and breadsticks for dinner. Pete came down to our house for the podcast tonight so it was fun to have him here.

Saturday, March 13, 2010
mar13Kind of a weird day today. It started with sleeping in and snuggling with Joey – so great. It was an overcast/rainy day and Joey suggested I do something that I haven’t done for a long time – so I went for a walk in the rain. It used to be something I did a lot, but I haven’t done it in years. I’ve been struggling lately in so many areas and a walk in the rain is such a good remedy. I was gone for a couple of hours and it just wasn’t quite long enough to face all the things that I’ve needed to think about, but I just didn’t have enough time. JJ had his first friend birthday party to go to and he really enjoyed that. The kids did some painting and watching movies and JJ and Joey started working on their Pinewood Derby Car.

Sunday, March 14, 2010
mar14The kids still have colds, Joey has a cold, and I was up all night with heart burn and a stomach ache. So once again, we stayed home from church. Joey and JJ worked a bit on their Pinewood Derby car again and did some reading together. I stayed in bed with a flu bug. And then Joey gave me a special present – a night away from responsibility. I am here in a hotel in Provo, all by myself. Just me and my computer. I’m still pretty sick, so its not the most relaxing time in the world – but it really is something that I have needed. Some time alone to think about things. I’m sick of being stressed and depressed. I truly just want to be happy and hopefully this little getaway will help me find that.
