Family History TuesdayZ | Shopping with Mother

Journal prompt: What do you remember about shopping with your mother?

Journal prompt: What do you remember about shopping with your mother?Journal prompt: What do you remember about shopping with your mother?

Family History TuesdayZEach Tuesday, I am going to be offering prompts or ideas. If you don’t write in your journal regularly – I am going to encourage you to write just ONCE A WEEK and answer the question/idea that I give on Tuesdays. These ideas hopefully will spark a memory and you will be able to capture that in what you write/record so that it can be left for your children/grandchildren/family/friends. Give as much detail as you can when answering.

Will you do this for me? Will you do this for your families? You can write it down in a journal, you can type it up on a computer or journaling software, you can take a recorder and talk, you can videotape your answers, you can even scrap a page with the journaling. It doesn’t matter how you do this – it’s just important that you do it. The memories, the dates, the information is the only real thing we can leave to our families when we are gone.

Life 365 | Week 33

JJ and Beth’s favorite way to play is to grab all of their toys and scatter them across the living room and the kitchen. I dream of the day when I can have a whole room just for their toys so that we don’t have to spend every waking hour picking up toys. So usually I get upset and the kids grumble about having to pick up. But then their are those special moments when I actually get caught up in watching them use their imaginations and the mess doesn’t bother me so much. I hope I can remember these moments more and not lose my temper because I really do love that they are learning, growing, and having fun together.

We took a trip to Costco and Walmart today to fill our cupboards. The kids were really great and it was just a fun outing! But it always makes me tired and its nice to finally make it home and have everything put away.

JJ got to go fishing for Scouts today and he loved it! He actually caught 2 fish and he shared one with a boy who didn’t catch one. He was so excited to bring it home and show us. Unfortunately, he didn’t want to eat it and he kept saying he wanted to keep it as a pet (of course it was dead – so that’s not happening). I think I need to get the kids a goldfish or something!

A trip to the Orem library was our fun outing of the day. The kids got to bring home some Curious George and Arthur books and I brought home my book club’s book, The Time Traveler’s Wife (which I can’t wait to read again – love it) and a Nancy Drew book. I thought it would be fun to read Nancy Drew again.

We really need to get a sandbox for the kids someday. There is a small dirt area in the back of our yard by the tree that the kids just love. It’s not that great of dirt, but they dig and play and build in it anyways!

Grandma Smith took a day trip and came up to see us today. She brought some fun cans that she had decorated and filled with treats and fun stuff for the kids. They LOVED IT! They did stickers and played. We picked up Uncle Aaron and had pizza together before Grandma had to go home. Thanks for coming and being with us today Grandma!

Uncle Lane came up and spent the night with us. He is headed to tour colleges tomorrow. I can’t believe he is going to be a senior this year! Crazy! The kids love it when he stays with us!

Life 365 | Week 2

Time to get back to reality. The kids went back to school today and then we started doing cleaning/organizing of their rooms. We cleared out some shelves and spots for their new toys!

My computer has been really sluggish lately – so I wiped the hard drive clean and started reinstalling everything and backing everything up. I almost had it ready when my internal hard drive completely died on me. So we took it to Simply Mac to have a new hard drive installed. The good news is that my original 250gb hd is going to be replaced with a internal 500gb hard drive – so I’m going to have space! It will be great. My great hubby also purchased me a 1TB Time Capsule – so I will have a great backup system now when I get my computer back….

We did some major grocery shopping today at Costco/Walmart. It was really time to replenish our food storage. After picking up Beth from school I started cleaning out my food closet and Beth made her a little house with all the food. It was too cute!

Just another day of organizing and relaxing. I love to see the kids all cuddled up with their Daddy at the end of the day!

I still don’t have my computer back. Simply Mac apparently had a lot of other repairs to do before they get to mine – so I’ve been using Joey’s little notebook to browse the internet – answer emails – and play. I can’t do much else and its really frustrating, but at least Facebook has kept me from going insane without my computer!

We finally got around to putting away our Christmas Decorations today. The kids and I were pretty sad, but it was just time. The rest of the day we just hung out together as a family at home.

It has been so much fun to watch the kids enjoy the Wii. They have been doing A LOT of bowling and its been fun to see their little moves – JJ’s jumps and Beth’s leg crossing when they “throw” the bowling ball. So much fun!

Project 365 | Week 16

Monday, April 13, 2009
apr13We celebrated Beth’s Birthday today. I can’t believe it has really been 4 years since she was born. Cody and Becki came over for dinner and the party and I’m so glad that they live here and could come and celebrate with us. We had Beth’s favorite meal, Beef Ravoli with Red Sauce. And then Beth got to open her presents. She got some Princess Flip-flops and sunglasses from Cody and Becki and a My Little Pony house with mini ponies & Disney Princess Dress-up Dolls from Joey and I. Becki’s sister Ashley, made Beth a darling My Little Pony Cake, which she just loved. Happy Birthday Beth!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009
apr14Beth got one more day to shine. Her teacher crowned her the Birthday Princess for the day at school and of course that just made her so excited. She wore her crown all day!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009
apr15I can’t believe how much snow we got and in April! Crazy weather! Joey made this cute little snowman on the roof of our van. The kids thought it was the best thing ever! Of course the snow didn’t last too long, it was pretty much gone by the end of the day.

Thursday, April 16, 2009
apr16Since it was JJ’s spring break this week, I decided that we should do something fun. So I took the kids to the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point. The kids really loved seeing all the dinosaur (and other ancient life) bones and they were able to “dig” for bones in the digging quarry and they were able to participate in the Junior Lab creating fossil molds and uncovering fossil fish with air scribes. Plus we were able to see a 3D movie on their Mammoth Screen! It was a great way to spend an afternoon!

Later on, we were able to do a little shopping, including using Beth’s Birthday money to buy a new stuffed horse, complete with a purse. Thank you Grandpa & Grandma Sorensen!

apr17Joey spends a lot of time listening to audiobooks on his iPod. One morning , he left his old iPod nano laying on the kitchen table, and JJ picked up. Confusing it for the normal, larger iPod, he assumed that it must look so much smaller because he had become a giant, and ran to his Dad, laughing and exclaiming “Dad, Dad, look! I GREW!”

Saturday, April 18, 2009
apr18We spent a lot of time playing outside today. Really great weather! JJ has been really having a hard time lately. We are hoping it’s just a stage, but he has been having episodes of really bad behavior, hurting his sister, talking back, potty accidents, and just throwing fits. We have been trying lots of things to try and help him get control of himself. Joey thought that maybe running around would help him a bit since he is always so busy. So Joey took 4 pieces of wood and put them on our lawn and had the kids run “ladders.” We started timing them and they had a blast. Now they have to run a ladder everytime they want to spend some time playing outside or when they need to calm down. So far it seems to be working! Beth also got to play some soccer with her Dad for awhile. She loves kicking the ball around – I know absolutely nothing about soccer, so we will probably have to find her a team to play on in a couple of years.

Sunday nights are when Joey puts his podcast together. They record on Fridays and then the previous recording gets edited on Sundays and so by Monday mornings the podcast is released. I am glad that Joey is able to do something he really enjoys!

Project 365 | Week 10

We got out the kids travel cups today as I am starting to put things together for our trip. Just looking at things and starting to plan out what I want to do and what I want to take. The kids like to play with these cups because they can put it around their necks. Pretty goofy kids – but I’m glad they can find delight in the little things!

JJ’s school is having a read-a-thon this month. Each student who reads at least 500 minutes (or is read to) will receive a pass to a local water park and also a pass to a family fun center. I’ve been really slacking off lately with reading to my kids, so this is a great opportunity to get back on track. We decided to start with The Complete Tales of Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A Milne. This book was one of Joey’s treasures, until we had kids and now it is worn-out. I am going to have to purchase a new copy for Joey someday. But so far the kids are really enjoying being read to EVERY NIGHT!

We got some light snow, but of course it melted later in the day. Today was spent on the computer trying to finish up a new kit. I also had my wonderful Over the Hump Chat tonight. I really love meeting with the members of the Digitals community!

I decided to get an impromtu hair cut today. I had a coupon to Fantastic Sam’s and suddenly felt like I’d like to have a haircut before our vacation. So off Beth and I went and I cut 7 inches off my hair. It feels really great! We also took a trip to Costco and got some snacks for our trip!

I finished my kit today and I think it turned out pretty well. I am definitely excited to be able to use this when I get back from California! The kids and I hung out while Joey did his Friday activities of racquetball and recording of his podcast.

The kids and I took a day trip to Richfield today to watch my brother play in the State Tournament. Valley took 3rd and I was very happy for them – though I wished for them that they wouldn’t have lost yesterday – they definitely should have been the champions this year – darn it. But they played extremely well. I can’t believe my little brother is 16 years old – he’s gotten so tall! I’m very proud of him!

When I was growing up – Sunday was always pudding night. My siblings and I would make hot Vanilla and cold Chocolate pudding and fight over who got what! LOL I made some chocolate pudding tonight and the kids LOVED it. I think I am going to carry on this tradition for Sunday nights. It’s a great memory of when I was growing up.
