The kids love playing on the tire swing, the treehouse, and the old farming equipment.

We made our countdown to Christmas paper chains today. I was going to wait until next week, but the kids were anxious to do something – so we did it! They were excited to hang them up in their rooms!

I made navajo tacos for the first time tonight. I think it went over really well!

So the kids didn’t have to go to school today and so they were watching some tv this morning while I was in my room. I suddenly heard the distinct sound that JJ makes when he has a seizure. I ran in and Beth was freaking out. So we waited out the seizure and got Beth calmed down. I was so relieved when he stopped seizing. I hadn’t even realized he had a fever – I knew he was coughing a bit, but had no idea he was as sick as he was. We took him to the doctor and found out he had walking pneumonia but that with some antibiotics he would be fine. JJ slept most of the day and already doing so much better after the first dose of antibiotics.

Because of JJ being sick yesterday I didn’t get packed until this morning and we didn’t leave for Orderville until late afternoon. We had a nice drive and such pretty scenery on our way down though. It was nice to finally get to Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

What a wonderful day. We had a great Thanksgiving dinner in the barn with all of my family – except for Charity and her kids. And then in the evening, was JJ’s baptism. I was so happy with how it turned out. There are so many times where I don’t know what is going on in JJ’s head or how much he is taking in – but tonight, I know he felt the spirit. He was so calm and happy and it just was so great to see him come up from the water with a smile on his face. I was so glad all the family could be there. Both Grandmas gave such wonderful talks and the Grandpas were the witnesses. Cousin Austin played the piano for us and there was just such a wonderful spirit there. I’m so thankful for JJ and for the gospel in our lives. Afterwards, we had our Thanksgiving pie and other desserts and all the men/boys played basketball in their church outfits! It was fun to go over to Kori’s house afterwards and visit and play games.

JJ and I spent the day with Grandpa and Uncle Clint at Sink Valley. We looked for cows, played in the snow, got some wood for Grandma’s fire, and got some Christmas trees. JJ loved being out there and I did too – even though it was pretty cold. It was a fun day, spent with just my buddy. Dad and Beth spent time with the rest of the family at home. Joey helped Grandma with some computer stuff and Beth got to play all day with Whitnee.

We decided not to return home today. The weather was pretty awful, so we just spent another day, playing at Grandma’s house and visiting. It was nice just to be with the family.
Monday, July 5, 2010
We woke up to another fun morning at Sink Valley. We played on the tire swing and I finished my book. We had breakfast and lunch and visited. We rode on the Gator and we went up to the Sawmill. JJ got to ride on the Cat with Grandpa and haul a log to the mill and we all watched that log become boards! We then had some lunch and headed to Orderville one more time. We picked up some hamburger and some sleeping bags that my parents had for us and then we started on our long drive home. We stopped in Nephi for dinner at the Flying J Restaurant and then got home at about 9:30pm. It was a nice weekend – despite all the traveling – and I’m so glad we went. But it is good to see home too!

Beth started Science Camp today! She got a bright yellow shirt and got to do tons of projects! She was so excited! They talked about birds, ducks, and frogs today and they got to make all kinds of nests and fun things. I’m so glad we got her in this program for the next 2 weeks!

Its amazing how with all the kids’ toys and things that they have – that sometimes just a couple colored strings is all they need to play and have fun!

While my son was in school and my daughter was in science camp this morning, I glanced through my Freecycle emails and found one for a movie today! So I snatched it up and the kids and I went to Enchanted! Yes, we have the movie, but it’s so much fun to go to the theater! I packed a lunch and we ate and watched the movie together – and it was for FREE!

We finally cut open the watermelon that my mom sent with us last weekend. It’s pretty big so I’m sure we will be eating on this all weekend. There’s just nothing like watermelon in the summertime! Pete came for dinner and it was nice to just take out the frozen enchiladas that I had made for my dinner exchange and stick it in the oven. Someday I am going to have a large freezer so I can just do the Dinner Once a Month thing and cook most of my meals in one day and then just can pull it out for dinner every night! But at least I will have a week’s worth of meals every month through my dinner exchange!

JJ and I loved Toy Story 3 so much that we decided to take Joey and Beth to it today. As we were finding a parking place at the movie theaters, a guy backed into our van. No one was hurt, but it was just so inconvenient since we had already paid for the movie. So Joey stayed out to wait for the police and to do all the swapping of information and the kids and I headed into the movie. Joey missed the commercials and the little cartoon that they do before the Pixar Movies (Night & Day) – but he did make it back in before the movie started! The van still works – we just can’t open the driver side door from the outside – we can from the inside. So now we have to deal with all the paperwork and insurance – but it could have been worse. See my good attitude LOL. Anyways, the movie was just as good as the first time. Not sure why – but it just affects me emotionally – I can’t even talk about this movie without crying. I just love the Toy Story movies – I really need to get my kit made for it! Anyways, after the movie – we just had a casual evening at home!

We watched Emperor’s New Groove for Family Movie Night. This is one Disney movie that both my husband and I ALMOST never watched. It was horribly advertised and just looked so stupid – but somebody told us that we should watch it and we did – and it’s so funny! We haven’t watched it in awhile even though we have the DVD, so we thought it was fun to watch it again. We had “llama burgers” [really just hamburgers – but we added the llama to make it fit the movie] and homemade french fries for dinner!

After watching Toy Story 3 – I’m even more aware of the importance of my children’s playtime. I love seeing them engrossed in their imagination. The Cars movie has always been special to JJ and he’s been collecting more and more fun toys from the movie. Most of the time, it drives me crazy to have all the kids’ toys scattered everywhere. But today, I was reminded of the Toy Story movies, and the way I played when I was growing up and I just watched the kids play – so grateful that they use their imaginations.

It’s was my 31st birthday today. I didn’t really have too much planned, except that I wanted to sleep in, to have a long shower, and go see a movie by myself. So Joey took JJ to school so I wouldn’t have to get up early and I did get to sleep in. But as I was taking my shower, I heard something snap and then no hot water. I had to call Joey back from work and he had to crawl clear under the house to fix a pipe. He got so dirty, but I’m so grateful that he was willing to do that to get it done. The rest of the day was just a regular day of a little cleaning, a little playing and a little designing. I finally got my long shower after the kids went to bed and then at 2am I headed off to stand in line for the 3:15am showing of Eclipse – me and all the teenagers. But it was fun and worth it and even though I got home at about 5:30am – I’m glad I did something crazy for my birthday.

Joey works A LOT and he doesn’t often get to play video games. But he has spent a lot of time lately playing World of Warcraft. He has needed to get certain goals met so that he can get the next expansion pack for free. He still hasn’t quite made it but he has a few more days! The kids love seeing him play!
Thursday, July 1, 2010
We love it when we get to tend Mallory for awhile! She came over to visit us, while Aunt Becki went to see Eclipse and we had a great time. We got to feed her and play with her and she even took a nap. She’s so sweet and cute and little!
Friday, July 2, 2010
We had a lazy morning and then packed at about lunchtime to head to Sink Valley for the weekend! We picked up some McDonalds to eat on the way. Unfortunately, we got almost 1/2 way there before realizing that we had forgotten Joey’s pills. So we had to turn around and go get them. We finally arrived at about 8:30pm at the family ranch. The kids were so happy to finally get there! We set up our tent and helped Grandma with the dutch oven dinner. And the best part for the kids was that they got to ride on the Gator with Uncle Clint and Grandpa. We had a nice dinner and even got dessert because Beth says, “It’s not camping if you don’t have smores.” Then we spent a hard night in the tent – Beth slept well but the rest of us didn’t. I guess Joey and I are too old now for camping the real way! But I’m still glad the kids had the experience!
Saturday, July 3, 2010
I haven’t spent a lot of time at Sink Valley – the family ranch – in a few years so this weekend was really wonderful. We woke up and had breakfast which my mom had cooked over the old stove in the house. We got to go feed the horses in the Gator and swing in the tire swing. So many fun memories from the years and I’m so excited that my kids get to experience a little bit of what I grew up with. We then headed into Orderville to celebrate the 4th of July. We went to the park and the kids got to play games, we had lunch, the kids went down the slippy slide, and Joey and I got to help judge the soup contest! Then we headed back to Sink Valley where we met up with my brothers and sisters and their families. We played some ultimate basketball (like ultimate frisbee but with basketballs and buckets) and I tore up my leg pretty good and Joey toppled over Beth so she got hurt too – but it was still fun. The kids got to ride on a horse and ride in the baler/swather to help with the hay. My dad caught a young deer without a mommy and they fed it some milk and my kids got to pet it! Later even most of my cousins/aunt/uncle on my Dad’s side showed up. It was quite the reunion to have us all together. We used to do yearly Easter trips together with them and I have so many great memories. We had a great cook-out and visiting! It was the first time my whole family has been together in a really long time and so we captured some photos that I’m sure we are all going to treasure! And Whitnee announced to all of us that her Mom is pregnant! We thought Kori was done – so this is a new exciting thing to happen for their family and I’m excited to be an Aunt once again. We headed to Orderville after the cook-out and got baths/showers before heading to bed. Beth got to go to Whitnee’s for a sleepover and she was so excited.
Sunday, July 4, 2010
We got up early and headed over to Cedar City where we attended my brother’s church and got to see his daughter – Briel Ruth Sorensen – be blessed. We had a luncheon at their house and it was just really great to have my family all together. We then headed to Orderville again, where I promptly had a nap and the kids watched a movie and Joey went and helped my parents and brothers move sprinklers! Then we headed up to Sink Valley again! We played more Ultimate Basketball and had another cookout with the family. My parents, Clint, Cody and his family, Ricky and Logan, and my family camped for another night. We stayed in Kori’s little house this time because we decided we didn’t want to put up the other tent. We all slept much better.

Everyday when we take JJ to summer school we pass these fields that are filled with these thistles. I am amazed at how big they grow and even though they are actually weeds and are just nuisances, they have a bit of beauty to them too. I had to stop and get some photos of them today!

Growing up, my grandma’s egg noodles was a special treat that we only got at Thanksgiving and possibly Christmas. My family always liked the egg noodles over mashed potatoes. Now, whenever I make her egg noodles I think of her and miss her. My Grandma lived right next door to me growing up and I saw her almost every day of my life up until she died when I was a junior in high school. I was in the mood for the egg noodles today so I whipped some up to go with the leftover mashed potatoes I had. I think it is one of the most comforting and filling foods there is! YUMMY!

Since we are ditching the kids this weekend we decided we needed to do a little something extra special with them so we decided to camp out on our lawn. The kids got a real kick out of the tent and we had hot dogs for dinner. It was fun to see them so delighted! Next time though we will get something to get the mosquitos to stay away! Ouch.

We headed out today to start our anniversary getaway. Joey and I both had our ipods going and it was nice to just relax and listen to music. I don’t usually do that – but it helped our trip down to go much faster. The kids were so happy to see their cousins when we got to Orderville. We spent the afternoon/evening with my sister Kori and her family. It was great to visit and play. Joey was able to offer them a little computer help too and we went out to dinner together. I really enjoy spending time with my sister and her family. We slept at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s house and visited with them for awhile when they got back from the ranch.

We left the kids with Grandma and headed to St. George this morning. We went through a session in the temple and it was so nice to be able to go there together. We had the opportunity to stay in an awesome penthouse condo for our weekend getaway. Although St. George was REALLY HOT – it was nice to be in an extra nice (air-conditioned) condo! We had a king size bed, jacuzzi tub, full kitchen, and a hot tub on our deck. We enjoyed lounging around in the condo that was bigger than our own trailer house! We watched some movies, took a dip in the hot tub and just relaxed and spent time together. Joey even made me food – I didn’t have to cook! And that is something that is VERY RARE – he made the best pork chops for us. YUMMY! It was a really fun time!

It has been awhile since we have been able to go to the Utah Shakespearan Festival. I feel very grateful that I am married to a man who enjoys going to plays as much (probably even more) as I do. He was into Technical Theatre big time in high school and did a lot of stage managing. So being able to see 2 plays was just a real treat. We saw Henry V on Friday night and The Secret Garden on Saturday. They were just wonderful! We also got the opportunity to see a play in the Adams Shakespearean Theatre for the first time. It is an outdoor theatre designed after the theatre that Shakespeare himself used and it was really awesome!

We checked out and headed to Orderville today to pick up the kids. We ate lunch at Grandma’s house and headed home. The kids and I napped a bit on the way home – it was extremely hot and put us all to sleep – good thing Joey stayed awake! I did look back to check on the kids as we started the trip and caught this little scene with JJ. He was all comfortable with his feet rested on the arm of the seat in front of him with a grin on his face. He had tons of fun at Grandma’s and at Sink Valley, but I think he’s glad to be going home! Beth wanted to stay at Grandma’s too where she is spoiled to death – but it was really good to see them both and be home.

After more working on the truck – we gathered a load of cows. We branded them and got a load sent off to Sink Valley. JJ got to go on the truck with Uncle Clint and Grandpa and Beth stayed with me so we could go gather more cows. She was so excited to finally be riding a horse! I can’t believe that at her age, I was riding horses by myself. I feel kind of sad, that my kids don’t get to do that – except for once or twice a year, but I guess that’s just how it goes. The kids enjoyed playing in the dirt, riding horses, and riding Austin’s mini-bike today!
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
I enjoyed taking pictures of the kids today, in between my branding duties. My brother, Clint had branded my name into the fence in 2005 (the year Beth was born) and today he added JJ and Beth’s names to the fence. The kids got a real kick out of it, especially JJ. He was so proud! Once again, JJ got to go on the truck to Sink Valley and Beth stayed with me.
We had an extra fun night – Bruce Harris came out with his trailer and generator (his son, Blair and grandson, Stetson was already out here with us). He cooked us some amazing BBQ Chicken and Rice Pudding. And then while the kids were doing their thing – smores, games, talking – we played a game of Trivia Pursuit! I did awful – but I had a great time and I think I even learned some stuff. Beth was exhausted and went right to sleep and since JJ was on the truck – I could just enjoy being with my mom, my sister, and Blair and Bruce! We had a good time.
Wednesday, June 10, 2009
For as long as I can remember, my part of branding has been to vaccinate and to track the number of cows. The vaccination guns and the tracking systems have changed through the years (for the better), but I have always had this job. Occasionally, I have tied some calves, but I pretty much stay behind the scenes and that is really how I live my life. I like it that way. Not out in the spotlight – not the one really doing the heavy work – but the one giving support and keeping everything running smoothly.
Today….another load of cows off to Sink Valley (with JJ going on the truck again), another horse ride with Beth (she fell asleep on the horse for awhile), more visits with Kori, and more photo taking.
Thursday, June 11, 2009
“The last cup of hot chocolate and the last bale of Hay.” That’s what my Dad said this morning as we were branding the calves. I thought it sounded like the perfect title to a scrapbook page! Today is the last day at Bull Rush for this year. We packed and cleaned up camp, branded the last 4 calves (the biggest ones this year), and took lots of photos. Kori and some of Colby’s friend’s that came headed home. Colby and Clint took off hiking for awhile why Grandpa once again tinkered with his truck. When it was finally time to go – we loaded the cows and the horses and then we headed. As I took photos of the Peterbilt leaving camp (from the back of the white truck) – I felt kind of sad it was over. It seemed to go really fast this year. I didn’t really ride horses as much and it just wasn’t quite the same this year for some reason. But I’m still glad that my kids get to do this and I can only hope that this family tradition and way of life continues!
Friday, June 12, 2009
It was a slow, lazy day. The kids played outside all day and I played on my computer. Staying in my Grandpa and Grandma’s House just brings back so many memories of my grandparents. I really miss them. Looking out the front door, I see my Grandma’s beautiful peace roses. I couldn’t help but take several photos of them and this one is my favorite!

We were so excited to see Joey this morning! It was a long week without him! We were able to go up to Sink Valley and help my Dad and it was fun for Joey and I to ride horses together. The kids love it at the ranch. So much space to just run and play – they especially loved Daddy pushing them in the tire swing!

We had a great week, but it was so nice to drive in and see the #13 on our trailer. HOME. We just relaxed today and I took a long nap. The kids were so excited to see their room and their toys!
